Joint Stereo option not working

Post by Nunk »

Hi Guys

A quick question about Joint Stereo option in x2. It does not seem to work on my mono MPG file. I still only have the left sound channel after rendering the mpeg file using the Joint Stereo option.

I just need to get sound on both channels. Below are the properties of my video file.

File Format: MPEG2

Video

Video Type: MPEG2 Video Upper Field First
Attributes: 24bits, 720x567, 4:3
Frame Rate: 25.000
Data Rate: Variable Bit Rate (Max 8000kbps)

Audio

Audio Type: MPEG Audio Layer 2 Files
Total Samples: 1,009,920 Samples
Attributes: 48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Layer: 2
Bit rate 224 kbps

Thanks In Advance

"Joint Stereo" may not mean what you think... When you use Joint Stereo to encode an MP3, it doesn't create a mono file... it uses "smarter" compression to combine the information that's common to both channels, so it only has to make one copy of the "center channel" information. When it's decoded, you still have a stereo file.

(I'm not 100% sure that Video Studio uses the same meaning.)

Sorry, I can't help you with the fix. I don't own X2. Is there a "mono" option? A true mono file will play through both channels (or through the center channel on a Dolby Pro Logic system).

Joint Stereo option not working

Post by Nunk »

Hi

I thought Joint Stereo option would fill left and right stereo sound track. I fixed the problem now by using different software it would be good if x2 had a new sound filter added to fill left and right tracks.

Thanks

I don't know about X2, but the function you are asking for was in VS9, VS10+ and VS11+ as 'Duplicate Audio Channel'.

Hi Tom

Thanks cant believe that was hiding there. I missed it because the option Duplicate Audio Channel is grayed out and x2 is black and gray. So easy to miss for me anyway lol.

It seems to work thanks the lot.
