strange issue share - create disk - opens DVD movie Factory

Post by Ilene »

Hi - I've encountered the strangest problem tonite. Have been creating dvd's all day with X2. Typically following the Share - Create Disk - DVD steps. I took a break and came back to my computer. Now when I choose Share Create Disk - Ulead DVD Movie Factory opens a window and I don't even own this program! Furthermore when I try to use it X2 just crashes. When I try to open a saved burn project X2 also crashes. I still have VS11+ on my computer and the Share - Create - DVD step appears to work just fine, opening up the typical window. Anyone know why this is happening or what to do about it! SO ODD!!

Ilene,
Where did you purchase your VS12? While the burn module is a very simplistic DVD authoring app, like DVD MovieFactory, it certainly is not DVD MF. As far as I know Corel has not offered a package where DVD MF is bundled with VS. The only application that used a SE version of DVD MF was MediaStudio Pro.

I currently have 2 versions of DVD MF and 3 versions of VS installed. So far I've never had DVD MF open when launching the burn module in VS.

almost as strange as this Web Board is behaving lately.

VideoStudio and Moviefactory both share lots of common files.
Examples:

Some computers come pre-installed with a version of MovieFactory - your computer might have been one.

Have you tried rebooting the computer?

thanks so much for responding... this is truly an oddity.

first let me start by saying I've used VS since VS8.... so I know what I'm doing.

I've also been successfully using X2 burn module for months already and have never encountered this. I was burning dvd's all day yesterday... walked away from my computer, came back and encountered this issue when I went to create a dvd.

I have a screen shot of what I've encountered but I don't know how to insert the image here... I'm happy to do it if you tell me how or I will email it to you....

FYI... I don't have MF installed... never had it installed... and it didn't come loaded on my computer. I also purchased VS direct from Corel, and installed from installation disks.

I spoke w Corel Support 3 times today... the first 2 tech's told me that I MUST have MF installed somewhere on my computer..... they sent me instructions to do a clean un-install of both MF and VS X2. When I looked for all the files and folders that they believed I had hidden somewhere of MF I coudn't find evidence of ANY to delete. So strange...right?

I called Support again, and on the 3rd call got a tech who had encountered this same issue before!! Hooray! He said he'd seen a screenshot from another user and could I also send him a screenshot. Seems as if there is a probelm, but their engineers don't know how to replicate it. they think it might be related to some windows updates??
So alas, I'm not crazy... I knew I didn't have MF...and it's just my terrible luck that I have to uninstall and reintall VS... which I hate doing because of all the custom libs and effects that I have set up that I will lose!!

They said I needed to do a clean uninstall. I unfortunately cannot get to this this week because I have some project deadlines. I can still burn on VS11+ just fine, as this version is still on my computer and that is what I'm doing.

thanks for replying... I was hoping someone out there would address my problem!

If you have an easier fix for me I'd love to know what it is!!

and yes of course, I re-booted the computer multiple times... that was my first response... I was really hoping it would just go away.

Try this - it should preserve all of your settings and projects.

1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12
Rename this to
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12X

2. Navigate to
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0
Rename this to
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0X

NOTE: Substitute your "Windows" User name for Stephen

3. Install VideoStudio using your set up discs.
(This will recreate the above directories)

4. Rename the (New) folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0
to become
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0Y

5. Rename your original folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0X
to
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0

Hopefully VideoStudio should now be "Fixed".
Once satisfied that everything is working correctly you can delete the folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\Stephen\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0Y
and
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12X

Thanks... That looks easier than other methods I've seen on this forum for backing u dat files....

Are you suggesting I don't do a clean un-install?? I'm not sure where that step would be or how it would work if the folders are "re-named?"

My method is longer ( and more cumbersome) but it works. I just copy all the files in my libs into the timeline and then create individual projects for each Library ie Video - Video Backgrounds for all my motion backgrounds.. Then I open the projects in the new version and copy the library back.
I also have numerous effect packages that have copy over into vfx folder ( canopus, boris, etc).
Thanks for your assistance!

No need to uninstall - just rename as mentioned above.
The computer then thinks it isn't installed and so installs a fresh copy.
You then revert your settings back by a simple bit of renaming directories.

Regarding FX such as Boris, Burger etc. simply copy the old VFX folder over to the new one:

C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12X\vfx_plug
to
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12\vfx_plug

I thought a clean uninstall would resolve any issues if the registry had been corruopted cuasing my problem? Or w your method would the registry just be over written?

Try my method first. If it fails then System Restore is your next move.

still haven't had a chance to uninstall - reinstall - but I was edited some video files tonite and just wanted to see what would happen if I tried Share- Create Disk- and Selected Blue Ray or AVCHD... when I selected these options the standard burn module opened just fine... ( although the options were for blue ray or AVCHD and not DVD....)

When I try DVD - I get the Movie Factory Window.

When I select VCD or SVCD - VS just crashes.

Does this tell me anything???

Just thought I'd mention it.

Just to clarify....
You do not uninstall - you rename the directories so that the computer thinks it does not exist.

Yes - sorry - meant that. I will only uninstall - reinstall if the overwrite doesn't work. Planning to do this on mon or tues. I just thought it was weird that the module worked for other options ie blu-ray and I didn't know if that indicated anything to you.
