Import DVD with Split Track Audio

Post by zforray »

I have a special DVD that has children's songs presented with videos. The DVD menu lets you choose each video as "Rehearsal" and "Performance". The "performance" choice plays the video with just music, no vocals.

All attempts to import this video from the DVD includes both vocals and music. I have tried every chapter and the video I need only occurs once.

My guess is the sound track of the video is split-track and the menu selection of "performance" somehow suppresses the vocal track (please correct me if I am wrong since I am no expert!).

My question is, how can I process the video in VSX2 and split the audio track so I can mute the vocal track?

"Audio View" doesn't seem to have this ability. The Audio Tab shows only the right-channel as playing any audio.

You may want to try a program (freeware) called "DVD Shrink" v3.2. The intent of this software is to back-up DVD's. One of the features it has is the ability to only backup the part of the DVD that you want. This is handy when backing up a purchased DVD. I've used this software to backup a movie with only the stereo English audio. Not the 5.1 surround sound or the Spanish, or the French, etc. It seems to me that this software may be just the thing you need to see the various parts of the split track DVD that you have & only back-up the part(s) you want.

Here's a link to a tutorial & it has a link to download the program, "http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/"

By the way, split track usually refers to a CD / DVD with the music on one side (of the stereo channel) & the vocals on the other side. You may want to see if this is what you have. If so, you can get just music or just vocal by adjusting the balance on your player to full right or full left.
