post a reply problem

Hi again
I have recently asked a question on the forum and had some replies to which I needed to respond.
When I clicked on the 'post reply' button I was taken a page of forum announcements, rules etc.
I then had to click on 'view your posts' (top right of that page), then the appropriate post, after which 'post reply' worked and brought up the 'post a reply' message box!
have I missed something?

This is the first time that sort of action has been reported. I've tried to get the forum to replicate it, however so far (and so good) it will not. We will be watching for this.
Corel did update the forum software, and is currently working on making things much better. Discussions are being held to determine the best direction to go with this web board. Steve, Ken and I have been exchanging emails with the proper staff at Corel about problems with the forums. These exchanges resulted in this first step of getting it updated to the most current for the 2.0.
Again we will be looking for this sort of mis-direction behavior to see if it is one that is going to surface repeatedly. Thank you for bringing it to our attention..

If computers were perfect old dears wouldn't get a surprise bill from the electricity company for half a million pounds/dollars!!
Little glitches like this normally rectify themselves after a reboot.

Unfortunately a reboot hasn't worked fro me!
Also realised that the workaround mentioned earlier only works for my own posts!
(I just tried to reply to someone else's post but can't....)
Any ideas would be wlcome

Unfortunately the recent fix by Corel has once again collapsed and again we are experiencing problems with the Web Board. I reported this by email to Corel some 24 hours ago but have not yet had any acknowledgement.

The speed seems to have improved but I still get bugs on replying...someone is tinkering with the SQL database

I think I may have found an answer
The link I have been using in 'favorites' (IE7) was to the 'Ulead' forum, which presumably gets redirected.
I have now worked my way through Corel's website to find a link to the forum (not obvious or easy!) and opened it from there - then saved page to 'favorites'
Now when I open the forum from that link 'post reply' works - but still not working if open from 'old' Ulead link.

I run a Forum using phpBB and I have the version 3. I can't replicate this "Post Reply" problem but I do notice that at the bottom of this Forum the credit line reads:
Powered by phpBB © 2001, 2005 phpBB Group
Whereas my Forum reads:
Powered by phpBB © 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007 phpBB Group
That might indicate that this Forum's software might benefit from updating.
A second thought suggests that the migration from Ulead has a legacy problem.

I have done a quick search for the problem but as I can't see which version of the software this forum runs the replies may not be relevant.

Yes, we know Corel is not using the most recent version of phpBB for this forum. In fact, after this last bout of problems they just upgraded to v2 (the latest is v3). Getting them to do anything is like pulling teeth.

Perhaps they need help!
When I was running a forum on V2 I found a handy add on that enable a user to "Watch this Forum" so any new posts generated an email . This saved me keep going into the Board to see if there were any new Topics posted. This handy feature was incorporated in V3. Makes life for Admins and Moderators a bit easier especially for a very busy Board like this one!

You can set your profile to received emails for new posts.
The real problem is the admins (Steve, Ken, Ron) and mods (myself among many others) are users like yourself and only have control within the forum. We have no control over what type of forum software is used, what kind of server it resides on, etc. That is all controlled by Corel in Taiwan and they are not very receptive to our complaints or suggestions.

Yes but I thought that only notified you of new posts to existing topics. The add on allows you to receive email notification of new topics in a Forum!

Personally I think you all do a superb job. I wonder how many members realise that without access to the server and more especially the database how difficult things can be if you want to excercise full administrative facilities. Surely it would be in Corels interest to give the Administrators full FTP access. I know the Board is on the main Corel site but the Board could be configured for separate FTP access.
