Alludo USER to USER Web Board

I have two camcorders, one Sony DVD202E and a new Canon HG10. I bought VS Pro 2x as it will open the MTS files that my Canon uses. Unfortunately VS will not open my VOB of IFO files that the Sony produces. As I will be mixing the clips from both cameras in a couple of projects it is importatnt that I keep the best possble quality from the Sony files. They are already of much less qualtiy than the Canon MTS files so I was concerned that if I convert the VOB of IFO files to an acceptable format I would loose even more quality. Just by chance i thought, with tongue in cheek, I wonder what would happen if I just changed the .VOB extension to .MTS? Magic it worked. I can now import all my VOB clips straight into VS with no loss of quality, the audio sync is perfect and I can't find anything that has gone wrong!
I thought this might help others though I suspect I will get it in the neck from any techies who read this
Suppose I should add the codicil "Make a copy of your VOB first"

Thanks for that tip on changing the VOB extension to yet another, and finding that VS will accept it. It's not surprising though, since VOB is more of a container, like AVI. The MPEG-2 files are just held inside the VOB, along with other pertinent data so that DVD players will be able to understand them...
