"Convert" 4:3 aspect SD video to 16:9 aspect in VS

I am quite sure I once found a reference to this but I cannot find it now so I am sorry if this has already been addressed. If so, just aim me towards it.

If not....

I would like to show 4:3 aspect video I took on my first Sony SD camera so it will look like 16:9 aspect similar to my new Canon HV30 HD video footage (though I know it will not be the same "quality") in my VS projects. I am thinking it has something to do with the cropping filter in VS but I am not sure. Any pointers?

Thanks.

I don't know exactly, but of course you will have to crop the top, bottom, or both. Are you sure you want to throw away that much of the image? (If my quick calculations are correct, you'll loose 25% of the picture!)

Maybe someone can help with the exact details, but I think the general procedure would be to crop, re-size (distorting the image to fill the screen), change the aspect ratio to un-distort. The last step might require inserting the distorted 4x3 video into a 16x9 project, and re-sizing it.
