Massive slowdown after Auto Music (Quicktracks) added (VS9)

Post by richardnau »

I have put together a four minute video. It preview plays fine -- just a couple of seconds from pressing play to commencement of the preview.

When I add Auto Music (Quicktracks), everything slows almost to a standstill. I have added a single Quicktrack along almost the entire timeline. Now it tales more than two minutes to save the project (!), and more than two minutes to start a preview/play. It all seems to work OK when eventualy something happens.

VStudio is working hard during this slowdown -- 50% of CPU time consumed; CPU temp rises from 37degC to 59degC...

Am I doing something wrong??

Richard.

Did you mute the audio of the original video? If not, UVS is mixing the two audio tracks, which might explain why the CPU is so busy.

The audio of the original clips is MOSTLY muted -- there is about one minute of mixed audio (intentional).

System specs: P4 3.0GHz, 2GB Dual Channel DDR RAM, video files on dedicated 120GB ATA100 HDD.

I went back, couldn't duplicate, again.

Are the project properties and the content properties the same?

Yes: PAL DV for both incoming and outgoing. No 'foreign' content.

And when there's no Auto Music, there's no problem with video previewing or rendering. Somehow, when Auto Music is dropped in, things turn to molasses.

I'll have more of a chance to tinker later today.

Have you updated the SmartSound engine? in the Auto Music tab, click on Smartsounds, then Internet, and check for updates.

I have the same problem (and did in VS8 too). The longer the SmartSound clip, the longer the project takes to play, save, etc. If it's only a 30 second clip the delay isn't that noticable, but if it's, say, 4 minutes it seems to take forever.

If I remember correctly, one of the VS8 patches claimed to also fix a SmartSound problem and after I installed that it helped greatly. Am I dreaming that or does someone else recall that?

For creative reasons, I changed the QuickTrack I was using. Was using: Subterfuge. Changed to: No Borders.

Problem fixed...

Maybe there is a glitch somewhre in the Subterfuge files.

Hmmm, I've used Subterfuge quite a bit. I'll have to give that a try.
