Hi, I'm new here, I've been using Videostudio since v10, I have the latest one v12 ultimate and I really use it for just for family use, but I have had a problem with this latest version, it simply will not burn to anything at all, including an image file. In the past, I was able to burn from an image file, then onto a disk, but I have just upgraded to the latest version and now I'm having problems. I am running Vista ultimate 32 bit, Athlon 64 x2 4600, 4 gig of PC6400 ram, geforce 9600 gt graphics, I can't say it could be that. I've tried it so many ways, but it just doesn't burn. It just keeps coming up burned failed, an error code ( which I should of wrote down, but forgot) in the colour red and that's that. Can anyone help?

There is nothing inherent in the program itself which would prevent burning either to disc, to ISO image file or to a DVD folder. I and quite a few other users do so on a regular basis without trouble (and, in my case at least, since people ask, with absolutely no special tweaking of the computer).

Normally, I would ask if you have installed a program like Nero InCD or the equivalent Roxio DLA feature called "Drag to Disc." These are called packet writing software and they take control of the burner on start-up, denying access to it by other programs, such as VS. However, since you apparently have been able to burn discs with earlier versions of VS, I assume on the same computer, this does not sound as though it is the problem.

The only other thing I can suggest is to suggest you go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. The current one is dated November 2008 and can be found at http://tinyurl.com/6jj2lw

Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in VS11 in particular -- and now also in X2 -- which appear linked to Windows updates. Problems in the burning module seem to be amongst them.

Note that DirectX is not included in the usual pattern of Windows automatic updates. It has to be done every so often by the user manually. So unless you have recently done this, you are probably still using the original, non-updated version of DirectX which came with your computer.

Thanks for the reply, I downloaded from the link, seems I didn't have that. The only thing I have been doing different lately, was to add effects to the movies and it would not do anything, came up with unspecified error 5.0.0 and that was that. But recently I made a movie with only the sample movies I had and just added transitions and a title, then it burned OK. I downloaded an upgrade from v.11.5, it does not come with a manual, so I have to resort to what I already know about videostudio and of coarse sifting through the website for info. Thanks again for your help.
