Basketball Highlights & Ending Credits

Basketball Highlight Video

Normally I don't add a lot of special effects to my videos. I think too many take away from the content of the video. But this time I decided to experiment a little bit by adding some different elements to my video. Also, at the end of the video my new credits clip is featured.

Note: The video is not HD, so click on the Watch in High Quality button. YouTube has actually done a better job in recoding their videos, especially in HQ mode. The video I uploaded was simply a MPEG2, 720x480, 7000kbps, Dolby audio.

Basketball Video:

The video itself is pretty straight forward. I used some slow mo on a couple of the clips. Also used some video filters and transitions. I would like to mention that only on a couple of clips did I try to sync the video to the music, such as the ball entering the hoop to match the beat of the music. But it is amazing how much this happens without trying to do so. I recently saw a word for this perception, but darn if I can remember it now. :?

As my side business is focused more on sports videos I decided I needed a name that more clearly reflected that, hence Instant Replay Sports Videos.
This 30 second video was rather complex, as I needed more tracks than was available in VS (X2 Pro). It took me about 6 hours (over 3-4 nights) to complete. Going back and forth to tweak the two VSP projects was what was so time consuming. Having unlimited video tracks (thus using only one VSP) would have sped things up immensely.

The three clips that are split-screened were on their own overlay tracks. I saved the last frame of each one as a still image for the "stop" mode, then used the Reverse Clip function for the "rewind" mode. The tape rewind effect was actually the Mirror video filter. These were overlayed by a white color clip with transparency enabled. This portion was saved as a VSP.

I then started a new project and imported the aforementioned VSP. To that I added my rewind button. I actually had two. The static button was a BMP, while the "activated" button was an AVI. In this project I also added the 3D graphics.

Finally the music was added. The "reverse" effect was made using Audacity, while the slight pitch change was a VS audio filter.

I found it! I knew I saw it on Wikipedia but couldn't remember where, until today when I was watching a concert of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon. I remembered it had to do with perceived synchronization between Dark Side and the Wizard of Oz. Anyway, this phenomenon is called Apophenia.
Apophenia is the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data. The term was coined in 1958 by Klaus Conrad, who defined it as the "unmotivated seeing of connections" accompanied by a "specific experience of an abnormal meaningfulness"
Interesting.

Very good and well worth the effort. I think you might have a busy order book when the players show friends/relatives copies of the video!

Do you think that the next one might not take so long because a hefty chunk of the time would have been knowing what it was you wanted to achieve but had to figure out how to do it?

The video was crystal clear, thanks for sharing the settings.

No doubt. It certainly was a case of experimentation.
