VideoStudio 9 & MicroMV

Post by lance_shaw »

I have a DCR-IP7 NTSC and have problems using it with VideoStudio 9 Demo. It recognises it in the Capture screen, but there are no options to amend, and when I click on the capture button, the camcorder starts, but I get a warning message advising 'Failed to Build a Capture Graph' and nothing is captured, but I can still control the camcorder from the capture screen (Stop, Start, Re-wind etc)

If I go into Preferences, I then get 'Unable to switch to Capture mode.
Check if your video capture driver is working properly
Failed to build a preview graph'

[15001:33:1]
[15023:4:2]

I then Click OK, go back to the capture screen and the camera is recognised as MicroMV, but I still get the 1st error and nothing is captured. I am running Win XP Pro SP2 on a P4 3.0 with 1GB Dual DDR2 Memory and 128MB PCI NVidia Xpress Graphics - 80GB Maxtor SATA Drive.

I had this problem on my old PC with VideoStudio 8 Demo also. I currently use Pinnacle Studio V9, but with problems, meaning that I have to capture (perfectly well) in Movieshaker and then export to MPEG2 before reading it into Studio 9. I am trying to cut out the Movieshaker issue. HELPPPP!!!

'Failed to Build a Capture Graph'

Post by GeorgeK »

Can anyone explain the 'Failed to Build a Capture Graph' error? I have attempted to research it but from what I could find, it is a DirectX error message. UVS8 and 9 capture video on my WinFast XP TV2000 capture card, but UVS7 and Pinacle Video Studio 9 both give me this error.

lance_shaw, your not the only one with this issue, but I do not get it with UVS9. If you are able to back up your hard drives as an image, save important data to DVD data disks, then you could try a reinstall of you XP Operation System, install UVS9 and requried drivers only, if this works, then any other software you use, and apply Windows Updates and SP's. This is what I have had to do in the past.

But it does not answer why the 'Failed to Build a Capture Graph' error occurrs.

Thanks George

The OS is a fresh install as it is a new PC. I have Pinnacle Studio installed, but I have also tried this on my laptop without Pinnacel Studio and get the same error - maybe is it a camcorder issue, but then Movieshaker and Studio initialise & capture from the camcorder.

Lance -- since your camera is a Micro MV, can I ask a fairly simple question: have your changed the VS9 capture plug-in to the 'MicroMV MPEG Capture Plug-in'? (Tools > Change Capture Plug-in.)

Micro MV Capture Error

Post by J Smith »

I too have the same error "failed to build a capture graph" when I try to capture from a Sony DCR-IP1 MicroMV using VS9. Pinnacle Studio 9 and Movie Shaker capture fine. VS9 controls camcorder playback OK. I had a similar problem with VS8. Trying to fix it I loaded VS8 on another PC and it captured fine, but on the PC where I wanted it to work it failed to capture even when I clean installed the XP OS. All plug-ins and other settings are as recommended in previous posts. There is a real problem here. I hope it can be solved, but needs some investigation by ULEAD.

MicroMV Capture Error

Post by J Smith »

Further to my last post on May 19, I found and installed VideoStudio 7 and the capture from my Sony MocroMV camcorder worked perfecty. I then reloaded VS9 and it still "failed to build capture graph", while VS7 still worked fine. In desperation I tried to install VS9 in the same folder as VS7 and it would not allow me. On previous occasions I have tried VS8, and this suffers the same problem as VS9 - no capture preview or capture.

If VS7 works, why not VS8 or VS9?

MicroMV Capture Error

I have the same problem with Lance and John. It works with VS7, but not with VS8 & VS9.
Is there any solution for that?
