videostudio x2 "Save as project settings"

videostudio x2 "Save as project settings"
I have a question about this menu choice. My digital camera saves video in quicktime mov. H.264 and if I open the video in a new project and add titles, and then choose this menu choice to save the resultant video, it seems to save it in mpg format with 720 X 480. I thought it was supposed to use the original format and size?

Hi
That depends on what you are trying to make
If you are burning a DVD then the video used has to be DVD compatible.
Look at Project Properties¡XMpeg files¡XEdit¡XCompression tab¡XNtscDVD or PalDVD
The settings you find here are compatible for burning a dvd. Notice that the frame sizes and rates are limited.
If you capture Avi or Mpeg2 then the files are most likely suitable, allowing the same settings to be used for the project properties. (Avi would need re-coding to Mpeg2)
Video Studio will change the project properties for the first file inserted, provided the file is compatible.(this also allows Smart Render)
Your Mov file is probably not suitable for making a DVD without re-coding, I do not think you will be able to set your Mov properties as project settings.
So what are the properties of the Mov file?
and what are you trying to make?

I thought I sent a reply already, but it did not seem to show up......so I will try this again.
My camera saves in mov h.264 format and I used videostudio to add titles and edit the sound. Then I was just trying to save it back to the origional format which is what I thought that did (it suggested the first video opened in the project would set the settings. My origional video was 640 X 480 mov h.264.

Hi tachy
Not worked with Mov files until now, just got a new camera that produces VGA Mov to Photo Jpeg. (Panasonic TZ5)
This is what I did:-
Change the project properties using Mpeg 2 compression option,
to show my frame size 640 x 480 and 4:3.
I assumed Frame Based.
This allows me to see the Mov in full preview screen.
The remaining settings do not matter.
Edit the video clips.
From Share Create Video File ¡V Custom
Save type as Quick Time Movie Files
Options......
Change the properties in the General and Compression tabs to match my Mov video.
QuickTime Movie Files
24 bits, 640 x 480, 30 fps
Frame-based
Photo - JPEG ( I don¡¦t have h264)
None, 8.000 KHz, 8 bits, Mono
Gave it a name and save location, the rendered file seems to match the original, with quality to match.
As I said its the first time I have worked with Mov files, there may be other ways to create a new file?????
Does this help
