Recording AVI file to DV Tape via Camcorder

Post by the gooch »

Hi All,

Just wanting to know peoples thoughts on what project settings you use when recording back to a dv tape via camcorder ( pal land)? So as to obtain the best quality in video. I also need the audio to be in mono not stereo!

We have been experiencing issues with the quality of the recording it comes out pixelated and with lines across the screen it could be the codec. The DV codec has settings for stereo not mono which is what we need.

Assuming you have a DV camera with FireWire (or USB2 DV transfer), then it is my understanding that DV Type 1 is the format the video files and the Video Project need to be set to. As far as I know, there is no such thing as "mono" but only "stereo" when it comes to DV video format.

I use PAL DV Type 1.

Hope that this helps, and others will add comment.[/b]

I happen to use Type 2 all the time, including for capture and export back to my vidcam, and it works fine. The only caveat is that you need to have a relatively powerful computer in order to be able to capture and manipulate Type 2 effectively. Type 1 seems to cause less problems, so without knowing your computer specs, I would have to recommend that too.
