Windvd 9 Installation Problem

Post by kraxxis »

Hi.

I download the trial version of WinDVD 9 and it worked except that it didn't play Bluray discs. I discovered that I had to purchase the software to obtain this capability. I then uninstalled the trial version.

Sometime after this, I purchased Windvd 9 Plus Blu-ray on-line. Then I saved/installed the program and ran it, I received the following message:

'No asset found for trial download (license Id: 540241476) with 8 day(s)left, source type 8 language en source ID 107004.'

In the same window there was no activation button as indicated in the instructions from support on Corel.com; there was just a close button.
After clicking the close button the program would indicate it was the trial version and when I attempted to play a Blu-ray disc it would say file not supported.

I called technical support and they sent me a disc on the WinDVD9 Plus Blu-ray and serial number. I had uninstalled the previous installation of Windvd 9, and after installing the program with the supplied disc I received the same message as above, except it said I had '0 days left". The 8 days eventually counted down eventually to 0 days.

I also noticed during the installation where I select the file types for which Windvd will be the default player, it only refers to DVD's, CD's and movie files, but no mention of Blu-ray files or discs. Also during the installion, using the downloaded file and the disc I had been prompted to enter the serial number which I did with no problem.

I'm wondering if there is problem with the demo I had installed earlier. I was able to succesfully uninstall all of the programs i.e. trial version, downloaded version and the version on the supplied disc. I also checked out the suggested manual removal of Windvd 9.
I have repeatly uninstalled and installed the program with no success.

I have checked that the OS/drivers/bios/firmware for my system are upto date.

My system is new and is:

OS- OEM Vista Premium 64bit
CPU- Intel 920i7
Motherboard- GA-EX58-UD5
Video Card- ATI 4870x2
Hard Drives- 120GB SSD,
1.5 TB HD
Memory- 6 GB DDR 3
Sony NEC Optiarc BD5100s

Also in the setup menu for WinDVD 9 on the
version is: 9.0 DXVAB14.084.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Please try the following method to remove your old version and then install the new one.

I have tried the directions to manually uninstall. the %temp% did not work in the command prompt in accessories, so I located the file on
c drive and in windows and deleted anything that was in the temp file.

It still does not work. I downloaded/saved and installed the file and when I ran the program the trial version appeared again with no place to enter the activation code as per usual.

I am calling Corel tomorrow if they can't resolve it I'll get a refund and try another program.

thanks for your help.

Finally installed and working

Post by kraxxis »

I finally installed Windvd 9.

To recap: I had originally downloaded the trial version and when I couldn't play a Bluray disks so I uninstalled it.

Later I purchased the online version, and because I had previously uninstalled the trial version, I installed this version as per the instructions in the email sent to me. When this didn't work I received the disk via courier which also failed to install Windvd 9.

It appears that even though I had uninstalled the trial version, part of it was still on my system and somehow it prevented a clean installation using either the downloaded file or the disk. The solution was my last attempt to fix it (and return it if necessary) was to go online and reinstall the trial version which I did and then I was able to get the window with the actviation button and after entering the serial number it finally installed the software. I think the only other option I had was to completely wipe my hard drive and reinstll vista and then the program would probably install correctly.

My advice is a program is needed which completely removes all traces of the trial version or any other version (like Nero) or make it clear that once one use the trial version they cannot use the downloaded file or the disk.

Anyways it works so I won't return it, but it kind of ticks me off that I had to wait so long (over 2 weeks) to get this program working.
