Capturing HDV

I have filmed a HDV video clip with my new Sony HVR-Z5E and I used VideoStudio Pro X2 to capture it. I have noticed though that in the capture the format type is MPEG (MPEG-2 1440 x 1080 16:9) and it gives me no other choices (like DV, MPEG, SVCD,DVD) where as if the video coming out of the camera is DV then I do have all these choices. Is this normal.

And another thing if I import HDV from the camera do I need a HDV capture card? because mine is not, and my monitor is not a HDV monitor.

HDV is HDV. It's a little like the original Model-T Ford: you can have any colour as long as it's 1440x1080, 16:9, Upper Field First and is captured via Firewire.

If you 'downgrade' to capturing standard definition DV, then of course you get the other choices -- though if you choose DV, then using Firewire, it will be (curiously enough) LFF.

And no, you don't require a special graphics card or monitor -- just as long as you have software that will play that format. VS will do so (and has done so since VS10+). And as far as I am aware, WMP, PowerDVD and WinDVD will also do so.
