PAL Truspeed doesn't work - Has anyone successfully used it?

Post by MacEachaidh »

On my system -- WinDVD 8 on WinXP+SP3 with 2 GB of RAM -- this option achieves nothing at all. It certainly doesn't achieve the result it's allegedly designed to have.

Maybe it's a hardware issue with my disc drive or video/audio card. I have no way of knowing, because Corel doesn't publish any minimum required specs for this. Heck, it's not even mentioned in their knowledge base and their Tech Support says they have no information on it at all. (Wow, how useful.)

Has anyone here managed to get it to work correctly? Can you tell me the specs of the audio and video parts of your system, so I can maybe judge what does actually make this feature work?

I would like to know as well what is its purpose - whenever I enable it I can't hear any sound at all!

There's not been any reply, Johnny B.

The Admins here don't seem to be interested (what they're even here for, I don't know), and the only replies I've had from other users, both public and private, have all said that it doesn't work for them either. So it seems it just doesn't work at all. For anyone.

I spoke with Corel tech support, and the answer I got was that they had no support information on it at all. They claimed they didn't know the feature even existed.

It's been in the software since version 4, and from posts on other forums dating back to 2002 it appears as if it's *never* worked. That just makes no sense to me.

Sorry to sound so negative, this is just enormously frustrating. It's annoying there is *no* support material on this whatsoever, and both Corel's support technicians and forum administrators are totally non-responsive. It's not as if we're trying to do something the software wasn't really designed to do; it's a specific feature, for crying out loud, that none of WinDVD's competitors offer.

Hmm I can see...

You are not negative at all - it's just plain description of the real situation!

I contacted Corel via "E-mail Corel" service many times because of many issues I had and their responses were simply ridiculous.
I also contacted them via phone support and believe me that was the WORST support experience I encountered in my life EVER!!! Such a lack of knowledge and common sense = just UNBELIEVABLE!!! I officially did complain (via e-mail) and the response? Guess what:
"Thank you for your valuable feedback. I have forwarded your comments on to the Customer Support Services Manager within Corel. We appreciate you taking the time to share your insight as a customer and we look forward to improving our service to you in the future."
No more investigation from their side, no more responses - just that pathetic "Yeah say whatever you want - we don't and won't care" kind of response.

Just one the most trivial issue you could imagine: I bought and registered WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray in November 2008 however when checking my account in section "View your products" it said "You have no registered products." So I contacted support 1.12.2008, reminded them several times - and the result? Guess what - today it's 9.5.2009 and that damned site STILL SAYS "You have no registered products." !!!!!!!!!!

And this Forum? The same sh*t! Admins are not even able to keep up-to-date the sticky "Win DVD 9 Patches". Come on...

So all in all I'm done with Corel! I tried hard! I put a lot of effort in order to solve issues and improve the SW (not only for me) but their official support simply s*cks. Can you believe what was their final recommendation they gave me? To go to this Forum as this supposed to be the best place to solve issues and get help - HAHAHAHA

I could not imagine any worse customer support than what Corel does to their paying sheep! The only reason why I still use it is DVD playback because there is no better upscaling / motion compensation than the All2HD technology...
I do regret my money spent on them, I do regret my time wasted with their support and I definitely do / will not recommend ANY Corel product to anybody!!!

Regarding the "PAL Truspeed" I suppose (by observing what SlySoft's ReClock does) it should pitch down the audio in order to hear it in its original pitch. Because movies are shot in 24 FPS and PAL is 50 Hz the DVD players (including WinDVD) do speed up the playback to 25 FPS (in order to avoid tearing) which makes the movie a bit shorter and sound a bit higher.
But why it does not work in WinDVD I have no idea. And reading what the official support said to you makes me angry (again) nevertheless it's no surprise at all for me - now...
