Help trying to read a corrupted DV Tape.

Post by jmone »

Any hints on how to recover some DV Footage would be great!

I've got a DV Tape (acutally the final Tape from my old DV Camcorder before it died) where about 10mins of it has a static image on the left half of the screen, the actual footage squashed up on the right hand side and no sound. VS11+ (correctly) reports these segments as faulty and deletes them.

I've tried FFD/RWD etc with no luck. Next step is to try a few different camcorders to see if they have any better luck reading the old tap. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Nathan

It sounds like the heads on your cam were going bad as it was dieing. What you see may be all that was recorded. You could try another cam but I wouldn't hold out much hope. :(

I wouldn't hold out much hope, as mentioned above.
You can get it digitally scanned frame by frame and then work on the halves that were recorded, but it would be terribly expensive.
