DVDMF6P Crash on Step 3 - My Resolution

Post by CaptainKen2 »

PROBLEM:
Kept crashing on:
Total Progress, Convert Menu 78%
Detailed Progress, Building menu transition 011/022, 36%

PROBLEM RESOLUTION
Well not sure which of the three changes I made fixed the issue, but it is now completely fixed using these changes. I have made several modifications to the source AVI¡¦s, and recreated them and then a new MFP6 project each time. BTW, changing between using ¡§smartscene¡¨ or ¡§thumbnail¡¨ had no effect.

1) Shortened file names and removed characters such as parentheses and periods inside of file name.
2) Moved the source files to an external USB hard drive and left the local drive as the target drive.
3) Changed target from ¡§Create DVD folders¡¨ to ¡§Create disc image¡¨ on local drive.

Please do not ask me for any details until after you have viewed the files found at the following link. Here you will find error screen shots, spec, settings, etc.

zip file

I assume this is a bug of some type as I have created and rendered other projects with DVDMF before, although I have also experience this crash once or twice before. I also use Nero VisionExpress with no errors.

Comments welcome!

Thanks,

Update to my problem

Post by CaptainKen2 »

As it turned out that was a short lived solution.

What has finally worked numerous times was to go back to an image of my PC before any programs were installed. Fresh out of the box, but with all current updates. Then I installed DVDMFP6.

I have been able to create several of the same DVD files and ISO's without problem. In fact, now it only takes half the time. To create an ISO for a 1hr 6min DVD it takes just under 2hrs, where before if it actually succeeded it took about 4.5hrs.

Hope this helps someone.

I have had the same problems as you with DMF 5+. It is not just in the menu preparation stage either, the rendering can suddenly stop in any of the stages without any error message. Hard drive activity stops and usually the cpu usage goes to zero. I can usually solve the problem by defragging and stopping a few background services, but not always. Even a reinstall or repair doesn't work. If you have had success with making image files rather than DVD files I will try that. Do you find that saving to a different drive than the source file drive helps?
It is the only failing in a very good authoring application, a great shame!

My original solution such as different drives was very short lived. What actually worked 100% of the time was to take the computer back to the state it was in right after I bought it and first turned it on, and then installed all current Windows regular and critical updates. I had an image of this (not to be confused with a DVD image) so it was easy to get it to this state. Then I installed DMF+6 and rendering work every time in this state. I can render to DVD files, image, or direct to DVD.

My issue was probably tied to some kind of corruption such as in the registry. Strange as I had done all the standard obvious attempts to eliminate any corruption such as registry cleaner, deleting temp files, defrag, etc. I will never know what the problem actually was. I've been hoping someone would analyze my error log for the true cause.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.
