VStudio 8 Crashes during render

Post by rjgeisler »

I am using a ATI 7500 AIW card.

I capture and then edit the source files. I Then click on "Share" and select "Create video file" and use "Same as project settings". It completes about 18 - 38% and then fails with the following error:

"Ulead VideoStudio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Details:
AppName: vstudio.exe
AppVer: 8.0.0.0
ModName: uvsepa.dll
ModVer: 8.0.0.0
Offset: 00003025

VS8 was working fine until I installed DVD Shrink. I uninstalled it and I have also uninstalled and reinstalled VS8 many times with no luck. I have erased all signs of Ulead from registry and system before reinstalling but can not get this running again.

HELP!!!!!!

Since UVS 8.0 had a nasty memory leak and the crash happens a good bit into the render, I would start by updating UVS to V8.01.

If that doesn't do anything, try this: that DLL implements Smartrender, so if you uncheck the option to not convert compliant files, you may be able to avoid the problem. Sometimes specific input files cause problems because they are bad, or present Smartrender with some unanticipated conditions.

Thanks for the reply!

I had the 8.01 update installed and it did exactly the same thing. I reverted back to 8.0 to see if the error followed and it did.

I will try without smartrender. I will report back in about 8 hours if/after it renders.

note: I have rendered this same clip sucessfully before, so I know UVS8 did work at some time. I also captured some new video and it also will not render.

Ulead Crashes

Post by raceman4 »

Interesting that you mentioned DVD-Shrink. I installed it last week and now Video Studio crashes when I try to run it. I get the splash screen with the lady holding the camcorder and then "Ulead has encountered a problem and must close, sorry for the inconvenience". I've reinstalled it and still have the same issue. I'll try removing DVD-Shrink, reinstalling Video Studio, and applying the 8.01. Any other hints would be appreciated

I had similar problem with startup! I have Sonar (Cakewalk) audio software installed and it caused UVS8 to crash on startup.

The error message should indicate what module caused the error!

I had to rename Vsampler3.dll and VSampler3DXI2.dll to ".Bak" and that fixed it. Ulead did not have an answer for that one!

According to the error VStudio.exe is causing the crash. What led you to the two dll's you mentioned?

Try downloading and running Sherlock 2.0 to see if you have any broken codecs on your system. That could prevent UVS from loading as it enumerates and initializes the codecs.

Ulead Crash

Well I uninstalled DVD-Shrink, uninstalled Video Studio, deleted what the uninstall left behind, and reinstalled Video Studio including the 8.01 update. Ran Sherlock 2.0, no problems detected but Video Studio still crashes on startup. Interestingly enough, version 7 still runs fine. The AppName is VStudio.exe AppVersion 7.9.9.9 in the error report. Any other suggestions? :(

When the error is reported it has the program name and the Module Name that generated the error. In my case it was Vstudio.exe and Vsampler.dll was the module name. Since it is not a Ulead program I had to search my computer for it!

It might be time for ulead to let us know how to totally uninstall UVS8!

I still can't edit with my copy!

The module listed is mfc42.dll. I guess I can check Microsoft to see if my version is up to date

I said I would report back after I rendered the project with SmartRender disabled.

After about 6 hours plugging away, it completed the render but created a file that is totally unacceptable!

I started with a file size of about 6gb with a VBR=7200 kpbs and LPCM audio. What I got was a file larger then 8.5gb! It converted all the bitrates close to 6000 kpbs. When I started the render process I specified "Same as Project Settings" but it appears to have ignored that!

SmartRender is not functioning and even if I got a usable file from this, 6 hours is not an acceptable time to wait for a fully compliant MPEG2 file to render.

Video Studio Crash

Finally resolved the VideoStudio crash by deleting the uvs.ini file located in Documents and Settings\All Users. Apparently Ulead doesn't understand how to completely uninstall their software

THoff,

Problem Identified but I only have a partial workaround!

You were right, the crash is being caused by the content of the video clip. Near saturation level white scenes like bright white clouds cause a crash in the same spot each time.

I also experience spuratic crashes on other white level events.

I am able to resolve the cloud thing by adding a crossfade transition just before the event but the rest are still a problem.

The SmartRender is not the only function that crashes. I tried to split by scene and it also crashes. This is how I located the problem!
