Loading movie file from a DVD

Post by Fermat543 »

Ive got a DVD with some old cine film 8mm which was burnt onto it by a local studio.

Theres a series of short 4min movie clips which are somewhere in the TS_VIDEO directory and the various .vob files etc...

Is there any way i can load some of these clips into my project and save them for burning with the other movies to create a new DVD?

basically wondering if i can create a movie (mpg) file from these .vob files in the TS_VIDEO directory on the dvd.

hope someone can help .... thanks

Hi,

You should be able to import the disc to the timeline and trim it to where you want.

UVS 8 and 9 have a "Insert DVD / DVD-VR" option on the context menu that appears when you click on the icon in the lower left corner of the timeline or clip view. UVS 7 requires you to change the capture plugin to the DVD Capture plugin, and then "capture" from the DVD.

 don't know if VS can edit mpg files, MediaStudioPro 7 can. If VS can edit mpg, all you have to do is copy the vob files from your DVD, change their extension from vob to mpg and load them on the time line. Trim as needed and create a new mpg file to be authored to DVD.

YES - UVS can edit mpeg files - no need to change filenames - just use the procedure described by THoff.

Thanks for the advice ...

I am using UVS 7 SE DVD ... so thanks to THoff for his suggestion of changing th ecapture plug-in ... once i'd found it on the menu system it was plain sailing from there.

many many thanks ....

just a word on changing the extension.

for non coyrighted protected material i found it worked.

when i did a test on copyrighted protected material the file got jumbled and played itself in about 4 secs before VS8 keeled over. (note file has been removed)

All i am trying to say is this method wont work if the material has copright protection encoded into it.

I'm on VS9 trying to import from a DVD (uncopyrighted, also done like Fermat's) from the VIDEO_TS files, but I can't get the audio. I get the video perfectly, but it has no sound whatsoever.

I'm quite new at this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I've tried the DVD on Media Player, and it also has no audio, but it does have audio on the DVD player (on the TV).

You need to install a AC3 Directshow filter, such as the one available HERE.

That's awesome! I didn't know you could do that in VS7. I have been importing through DVD MF and then editing the captured mpegs from the capture folder. Took me a while to figure out how to back door it like that though.

Thanks for the tip.

Okay, just tried it on one of my finished DVDs. One limitation. VS7 doesn't import AC3 (Dolby) sound like DVD MF3, so if all you have is VS7, you'll end up with silent movies.

I've insalled it, but the problem was only fixed for the MediaPlayer, VS still won't capture any audio. (I've tried re-starting and capturing it again).

Correct, the filter is to allow WMP to play AC3 audio. UVS 7 has no support for AC3, either through a plugin from Ulead, or any other means.

I've looked everywhere for a plugin, but I can't seem to find one. Could anyone please point me in the right direction?

Purchase the full version CD retail of VS9.
Watch the downloaded version. Many people have had problems with it
because of bad downloads etc. Plus it's a good size installation file and
doesn't include the extras.
Much improved importing features. Same importing features as the new
version of MF4.
Also dolby encoding / decoding and direct capturing to dolby audio.

Your much better off if you go from 7 to 9 anyway.

VS9 isn't expensive for everything it does.

I'm using the trial version of VS9, does that give me different features from the full one? They didn't say so, after all, that's what the trial is for...
