Which Mov compresion should I use?

Post by tachy »

There are so many choices under mov. Which will result in the best quality video with the smallest size? I know those are semi mutually exclusive characteristics.

I have a canon sx10 camera that produces mov files with H.264 codec. Is there a way to create videos using this codec choice with videostudio?

Ok, so to get good quality you need high bitrates, which means a large file size. To get a small file size you have to reduce the bitrate, which reduces the quality. So which will result in the best quality video with the smallest size? The one in the middle. Sounds logical to me.:?

Seriously, file size is obviously something that can be measured. And it is measured the same by everybody. Quality, on the other hand, is measured differently by everyone. Kind of like asking how long is a piece of string. Therefore, only you can judge what is the best quality.

So are you telling me I need to try each mov compression and compare for myself?

How about using the H.263 codec isn't that the closest to the H.264 codec ?

Since the H.264 codec don't seem to be on Video Studio then maybe H.263 codec would do.

The h.264 is found under the MPEG-4 settings.

Well, I know of no other way of judging the quality.
