2Dogs,
I found 2 such VS10 related errors (hope this helps):

1) 17th Jan 09:
Faulting application vstudio.exe, version 10.0.0.0, faulting module u32base.dll, version 11.0.0.0, fault address 0x00032346.

2) 8th Feb 09:
Faulting application vstudio.exe, version 10.0.0.0, faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.5512, fault address 0x00037631.

But interestingly, not sure why aren¡¦t there any error codes relating to my last few days (including today)¡¦s failure to burnt into DVD-RW format.

Thks sir.

Try a taste of Martini or a short test project

On other posts containing this .dll, a re-install seemed to be the fix - so you may have resolved that already.

This error sometimes occurs when two or more programs are sharing the .dll. Can you think of any programs you have installed since you were able to successfully output a VS project?

There are some tricky ways to make local copies of the .dll for one program to specifically use but it's not worth trying that just yet.

Well, maybe those two issues have been resolved by the repair install, or re-install, or DirectX update, leaving something else.

You might try making a whole new test project. Keep it simple and short, so that it doesn't take long to render and output to DVD folders, ISO file, or even to a DVD+RW disk for test purposes. You only need a minute or two of video in the project.

Report back with the problems you get when trying to:

a) output to DVD folders

b) output to ISO file

c) burn directly to DVD+RW disc (I wouldn't waste a single-write disc for the test project)

Keep your disc menu simple, since it's still possible that there's something in the disc menu that's causing the trouble.

Good luck!

Sorry, that was just my sloppy wording - you can try DVD-RW too, I just meant use a re-writable disc so as not to waste a single write disc!

2Dogs.
1) I did a 2.26min test project using:
a) Videos: from Ulead's library
b) Pictures: from my own same batch of Alaska's pictures (from various legs).
c) Music: 1 of the same .wma music that I am compiling on failed project.
d) Wordings: Ramdon wordings

2) Managed to successfully burn into DVD+RW (just bought a new batch).

3) Now I return my old project, trying to burn into DVD+RW.
a) same error "unspecified error".

4) I observed something;
a) You see one would import video from video cam (mpg) bring them
to time line and edit from there (as mpg).
b) I observed that all my prior imported 3 cds worth of video materials (from Sin-Taipei-Vancouver-Inside Passage-Ketchikan-Juneau-Skagway-Icy Point- Hubbard Glacier ) just disappear from the library.
c) This could be caused by my prior "repair" action...delete entire Ulead software...reload software from bx...
d) Is this true that the above caused my downloaded video disappear?

e) Could that be the cause of why I can't burn?

f) Prior to these imported video disappearing from library, I would have pull segments over to time line to edit.
- After it disappear..I seem to be able to continue editing...as it is now.
- So could be if I ever attempt to burnt...then they would try to find source of this "imported video"...which seemingly just disappear...that's why it can't burnt (unspecified error) right?

g) While waiting for you to reply, I have now re-imported what ever balance of my trip that I wish to burnt from Ulead...the past earlier segments (Sin- all the way to IcyPoint) I couldn't be bothered to imported again...as I had already used Imgburn to burnt to DVD-RW.

h) Seeking your comment sir.

Progress! Success, even! Thanks for trying the test project.

That could well be a cause. When you re-install Video Studio, it loses links to video files you made after originally installing it. In effect, it "forgets" where those videos are on your pc.

So as I understand it, you dragged clips shown as "thumbnails" in your library (next to the preview window) onto the timeline.

Ordinarily, if you then deleted the source clips from your pc or moved them to another folder, you would get a re-linking warning message, prompting you to re-link the clips. On the timeline, the clips that Video Studio could not link to would be shown in white. When you follow the re-link prompt, and click on the "re-link" button, you navigate to the folder where the clips are stored to restore the link.

I believe the default setting is for Video Studio to give you re-linking prompts, but that can be turned off. I have never tried to output a project containing unlinked clips, but I'm sure it would cause problems, and could be what's happening in your case.

If all the clips were on a CD, the CD would have to be in the drive. Unless you had several optical drives, that would limit you to one disc worth of clips in any given project, when working on a laptop. The normal recommendation would be to copy all the video onto a folder on your hard drive (or even an external drive on a laptop if you're short of drive space, but you have about 70GB free as I recall)

Perhaps I've mis-interpreted what you meant. Are the video clips on your hard drive or are they only on one or more CD's/DVD's?

Hmm, some clarification needed on that. When you say you re-imported do you mean you actually copied the video files to your hard drive?

2Dogs,
1) Relink portion:
a. Once in a while (seldom) I do get relink reminder, but those are for either music or pictures. I would be able to re-link them successfully.
b. I am aware ( and had seen) if relink is not successful, the relevant timeline section will be white-out.
c. But I don¡¦t remember having any relink prompt for video.

2) All my video segments are imported and parked at library.
a. It did not stay any where in my hard drive or other drives.
b. Also I am aware that Ulead can¡¦t edit .vob files, and can only edit files such as .avi and .mpg. That is why I imported them and parked as thumbnails in library.

3) When I mention re-imported, means I performed the function of imported the videos segments onto the library again.
a. I didn¡¦t copy from the video (as it would then be vob files).

4) Having said that, this is strange:
a. I manage to just re-import the relevant video segments (from my video cd), say from leg Hubbard Glacier onward.
b. I would also have on timeline my previously composed project.
i. This project originally was from Sin ¡V all the way to Icy Point ¡V Hubbard Glacier.
ii. As mentioned earlier, I chopped off Sin-all the way to Icy Point, and burnt as 2 separate Video files¡Kthen use Imgburn to burnt into DVD-RW.
c. I.e. what is left now in my timeline = Hubbard Glacier onward.
d. Now after re-importing the ¡§lost video segments¡¨, I
i. Tried to burn this Hubbard Glacier project (about 19 mins) into both ISO files and DVD image.
ii. Bingo¡Kit went smoothly ¡K.past the 5 sec (no errors) and at about 12 sec I manually stop it (cancel burn) ¡Kthinking all are well.
iii. Then I try to burn into DVD+RW¡K.failed¡Ksame unspecified error (after 5s).
e. Thereafter any attempt to burn into ISO, DVD image , DVD+RW..met the same error.
5) Not sure which God I had disturbed¡K.thinking my re-import would make peace.
6) I will try to create a short project again from scratch using this re-import material.
a. I.e. I will rebuilt a new project + same pic etc¡Kand see where it goes from there.
b. May not be able to continue as it¡¦s getting late.
c. What¡¦s your comment sir?

Hi JL,

regarding the stuff I wrote about re-linking - I hope you didn't find it patronising, I just wanted to be very specific about it. It seems you are familiar with the concept of re-linking, however.

You are still slightly ambiguous on the matter of importing files.

When you import from a DVD, where the files have a .vob extension, Video Studio will ordinarily convert these to a .mpg file. Typically you might get one very large .mpg file when you import from a DVD, although with a hard drive camcorder, you might have several smaller files.

In any case, you would keep these "source" files in a suitable folder on your hard drive. By default, Video Studio would import them into the Ulead Videostudio/10.0 folder on your laptop.

Can you confirm that's where you are storing your source video files for your projects?

One thing I have found to cause problems is the default name Video Studio gives to imported files. It creates alengthy name incorporating the current date, but also the "~" tilde symbol. For me at least, the file name prevents "Smart Render" from working, and I always change the name to a shorter, more suitable name. In your case, that might be something like "Sin-Taipei 1.mpg" etc.

I'll be out and about for a while now, but will check for any further response from you later.

2Dogs,
Sorry for not replying earlier. Been busy. Managed to burnt dvd.

1) As for the past issues, it's still a "black-box", as I really can't fig out what happened.

2) Did a test rendering with same material. Managed to render both ISO file, DVD mirror and actual burning onto a DVD.

3) Then I continue my Hubbard Glacier -- etc leg from a "New Project", but still using my same materials (vids, pics, music).

a) Hurray managed to render into DVD-RW and watched TV.
!!

4) Choose to move on.

5) Will fig out  how to overcome saving more projects into 2-hr DVD, as each time I burnt (say the above 19min project), I am lock out from the burnt DVD.

6) Thanks sir. :D
