Welcome to the Forums,

First we are going to need some more information. Please view This Thread, it provides a guideline to the specific information needed to help you.

A Suggested Workflow has been developed to help guide you through the mine-field of video editing, as it pertains to Ulead's VideoStudio Programs. They can be viewed here:

You might want to read through From Camcorder to DVD tutorial.

For a brief summary of AVI and MPEG-2 please read the article at this link:Summary of AVI and MPEG-2

To better understand Field Orders, and Frame Based, please read the following article:Explanation of Field Orders

Other than the above, just have a look through our Video Product Tutorials forum..

Also, clicking on the "?" in the top right corner of the VS screen brings up the help file that is practically identical to the user's manual.

User Manual - Corel website hides it well

I agree that I can't believe I cannot find the VS User Manual on the Corel website. I have tons of software and computer hardware and always like to download the user manual (as a pdf) and search through it. I probably spent 10 minutes searching the Corel website to no avail.

I never did find it and finally searched the VS user forum and found it in this posting.

I am thankful for this website and I am amazed at the amount of activity.

But I am still frustrated with the Corel website.

Best regards

Clicking on the ? in the top right corner of the VS screen will open the Help file, which is essentially the same as the printed manual. However, whenever I click on any topic the Help file immediately crashes. Some help. :?

Have you tried opening the help file through ~Program Files>Corel>Video Studio 12>vstudio.chm? Just thinking if it doesn't crash, it would eliminate the file itself from being corrupt. As you're probably aware the help file is just a modified HTML (web doc). So the crashing may be related more toward a browser issue than VS itself. I've tried to get it to crash on my XP machine, which is updated to SP3, and just installed another auto-update this morning, but can not get it to crash..

Nope. Same thing happens. I don't use the Help anyway, so it's no big deal. In fact, I would never have known of the problem if the OP hadn't brought up the subject.

BTW, VS10 Help does the same thing.

Seems to be a system problem Jeff. I tried all versions I currently have installed (VS8 through 12) on my XP machine, and none of them crashed when using the Help file. :? :?

Well, like I said I don't use the Help files, and everything else seems to be working ok so I'm not going to waste any time on it. Baseball season has started so I will be busy!
