Video Studio Pro X2

I am new to this site and am not sure if this is correct.
However, I have been struggling with Corel for three months wanting an answer to my problem.
I have used Studio 8 for many years and had no troubles.
I decided to upgrade to Pro x2 and find I cannot now capture analogue videos via Pinnacle Dazzle DC100 into PRO X2, I get "cannot start the capture graph" in a dialogue box.
I also find I can no longer use Studio 8. It will capture but not trim.
Corel do not seem to know the answer to this. Can anybody help?

Welcome to the forums,

VS Pro (12) will not allow capturing analog video. This is due to the IVI capture plug-in used. This was first discovered in VS11+, when they changed from the DSW (DirectShow for Windows) to their own IVI capture plug-in. With VS11 they did finally release a patch, fixing most of the problem, but not all. Now with VS12, this is back, and apparently they're not going to fix it this time. Too much concern over the HD (AVCHD)...

The workaround would be to capture with some other program, VS8, or if your capture device came with capture software. Once you have your video on your hard drive, you can insert it into VS for editing. Many of us use third party programs for capturing. For instance since I still work with DV, I will use WinDV.

After installing VS12 you may need to reinstall VS8 to get it fully functional again. Sometimes these latest versions will over-write a file that breaks the older versions. This is due to a Common Folder being used for them.

Pinnacle devices and VS just do not get along well at all. Several years ago I too used a Dazzle device to capture, however was not very happy with it, and soon placed it in a permanent storage device called a trash can...

I have a similar problem. Although X2 can capture from my Sony Digital8 cam, I don't like the quality of the picture in the preview window. Therefore, I use v10 to capture, then import those files in X2 for editing.

Some camcorders have a "Analog to DV pass through" feature. My Canon GL-2 has the feature, so passing the analog signal from my VHS tape machine through my Camcorder and then via Firewire to the computer does the trick. So, for those of you who anticipate buying a new camcorder, you may want to look for that feature in your new camcorder.

But using a mini DV camera as a passthrough device from an analogue source also does not work with X2...

If you live in the U.K. don't bother looking because it will not exist.
Almost All UK camcorders have the function disabled due to our Inland Revenue Department and the Tax Laws.

Thank you everyone for solving my problem.
I have tried capturing on Studio 8 and transferred to Hard drive and the onto PRO X2.
I have been trying to sort this problem for three months with Corel Support and they have never told me that PROX2 will not capture analogue.

Sorry, but I can capture analog video via a TV-card.

I have inside my computer a tv-card from terratec (Cinergy 400 TV). There is a menu-point named options under capturing and then you go to videosettings and switch the input from tv to composite or s-video. Put you analoge source via the yellow connector to the tv-card and I see then the analog video.

FWIW, I've sent an email to Corel, pointing out this returning A-D capture problem, requesting that they investigate it, and if possible issue a patch. Hopefully they'll be able to...

I have had problems with TV cards and corel products over the years.
Some versions of VideoStudio and/or MovieFactory would be happy with one of my Hauppauge TV cards, yet another version would not.

What is even more strange is that there was no consistency
I cannot now recall which versions I had issues with because I am using yet another Haupppauge TV card now but it was sort of like
VS9 = Yes
VS10 = No
VS11 = Yes
And similar results with MovieFactory.

I recall finding a cure that was installing different drivers for the TV card from either the Hauppauge Website or the Hauppauge User Board.
Now that i have a different TV card I find another perplexing situation.
The TV card I now use is called a Hybrid Card - it has analogue and also digital circuitry. Oddly VideoStudio / MovieFactory picks up the digital TV stations but not the analogue one's.

After all said and done, I only checked out of curiosity for the purposes of this Web Board. In practice I use WinTV2000 which is the native TV software for the Hauppauge TV card, then having captured with it I can now use whichever item of video software is most appropriate for the job in hand, VideoStudio/MovieFactory/DVD Workshop or something else.

I presume your Terratec Cinergy has its own recording software?

Yes, but I don¡¬t use this.

I think, the difference is USB with a plugin-driver or PCI with a WDM-driver.
