Video Studio 8 - no audio

Post by jrc »

I just installed video studio 8 and am trying to capture a VHS tape. The video is fine, but it is not capturing the audio part of the tape. I am using the composite setting.

I have another video capturing program and when I use that program both the video and audio are captured so I don't believe there is anything wrong with the capturing card, speakers, etc.

Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing? The other program that I used has a video only and video/audio setting. I really need to capture both the video and audio from the vhs tape.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you aren't getting any audio during an analog capture, the audio capture source may be set incorrectly, or muted.

Open the mixer for your audio capture device (a sound card, I assume), and make sure that the correct recording input is selected -- this should be set to AUX or LINE IN, not MIC -- the latter is for unamplified audio sources only. Make sure the input isn't muted if your mixer supports this feature.

In UVS, all you should need to do at this point is select the same audio capture device you just configured. Click on the gear icon to access the capture options and verify this.

VideoStudio8 no audio

I check defaults, muting, etc, - all ok

When I switch to the Sonic MyDVD program I can record both the video and audio from the vcr. When I switch back to Video Studio 8, I get video only - no audio.

Any other suggestions?

I had a simular problem, and I am not sure if you picked up on THoff's point when he said
select the same audio capture device you just configured
So please let us know what item you have selected in UVS9's Capture screen, select the Options Cog wheel, Input Source, and in the "Audio" section, the "Active Device:" should be your Sound card, and in the "Input Source:" should be selected as your audio input line from your TV to your computer, for exampe for me this is Line-In. But by default it was not Line-In it was something else (but I cannot remember). I was not capturing sound from my capture card until I manually set the Input Source to Line-In.
Does this help, and what did you have selected by default.

The active device is set for SB Audigy Audio and the input source is set for Analog Mix (line/cd/aux/tad/pc). There are other input sources and I tried them all.

Under the Active Device there is also a Dell Movie Studio Wave Device. I believe that is the device that actually connects the PC to the VCR. I tried to change the active device to the Dell Movie Studio Wave Device, but it locks the pc up when I "Stop Capturing".

When I check the properties of the clip I recorded, it is showing info under the audio sample size. I assume this means that the audio is being recorded. Also, as stated in an above post, the audio will record using the Sonic MyDVD program. So, it appears that the connections from the VCR to the PC are correct. However, for some reason the VS8 program is muting out the sound.

Any other suggestions are appreciated.

thanks

It's not muting the sound, you are recording from the wrong device.

Try setting the default Windows audio recording source through Control Panel -> Sounds & Multimedia -> Audio, and then use the Windows Sound Recorder (Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment) to see if that can record audio without locking up.

Under control - Sounds, etc. there are only 2 options, SB Audigy and Dell Movie Studio. If I leave it at SB Audigy I can record using the mic under the Sound Recorder program. If I change to Dell Movie Studio, I cannot record using the mic udner Sound Recorder. If I leave it on the Dell Movie Studio and go to the VS8 program it will lock up when I stop capturing.

I've got Dell Movie Studio and got the same problem - no audio from analogue VCR. I've checked all the appropriate places. The sound card IS working, as I can capture video and audio on Roxio Videowave.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Hi,

I have the same problems. No sound with Ulead VS when I capture from my Canon Hi-8 camera. The utility that comes with my GrabBeeX USB grabber works fine. Capturing the sound with MS sound recorder ( as described above to test) also works fine. The Magix demo version also has no problems with recording sound. I have tried and tried again every possible setting but no sound in Ulead. Is this a problem that Ulead has running on DELL?

Any suggestions are welcome.

I am not sure if this is a similar problem or not. I am using VideoStudio 8 and have no audio.

I have captured my video using another programme and imported it in using the “Insert media files into timeline” button. The format is MPEG Video.

To capture from a Sony DVD handycam to a Sony laptop I used PIXELA ImageMixer provided with the camera. The files play fine in RealPlayer and Windows Media Player.

Am I being thick here?! :?

The Sony camcorder most likely recorded AC3 audio, which UVS 8 doesn't support without the AC3 Dolby Digital plugin, which seems to have disappeared from Ulead's website.

I would strongly suggest upgrading to UVS 9, it's a better program, and includes AC3 audio support.

Hi Mad Girl

Right click a clip in the timeline and select properties.

What are your Audio properties. If Digital Dolby take THoff's advice above.

I have the same issue with 30day Trial VS9. I created MPEG files using PIXELA ImageMixer provided with the SONY DVD camera. When I insert them to VS i have audio truncated. Background music wors fine. Of course after burning this VS project to DVD - still no audio. Can someone test my MPEG-2 file on your instance of VS, please?

:D Problem solved

Instead of connecting the audio leads (white and red leads) to the pc capture device, use an audio adapter. Connect the two audio leads to the adapter and connect the adaptor to the Line In Jack of the PC.
