Connecting HDR-HC1: VS does not capture

Post by jdp1955 »

I try to connect my Sony HDR-HC1 HDV video camera with i-Link (downcoverting turned off) to VideoStudio 12 Pro, but the program will not capture my camera.

I am able to use HDVsplit to capture the video file and then I import this file into VS for editing, but I'd rather capture with VS.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

In fact, I always use HDV Split to capture from my Canon HV20... This is mainly because it, well, splits the capture into separate, real clips based on scene changes. VS will not do that with HDV, so you end up with one huge captured file.

That being said, it is strange that VS will not capture from your camera since there are a number of other users here who have the same camera as you, or more recent models, who have no trouble. Obviously, it is not your firewire interface. Does VS show any details of the camera when you open the Capture page? Normally it will detect the camera make and, often, the model as well. (In my case it says 'Canon HV20').

For some people, you have to have the camera connected via firewire (i-Link) and switched on before opening VS. It will then detect your camera and flash a message that it has done so and ask you if you want to use that device.

If that does not work, then for other people, they have to open VS first, then connect and turn on their camera, and the detection is automatic. Whichever way you do it, since that does not work, use the opposite sequence.

And I recall some people having to wait 30 seconds or more for their camera to be recognized, although I don't recall if your cam was one of those models.

Good point. In fact, it usually takes around 15 - 20 seconds for my HV20 to be recognised and the connection established. I have just got used to it!
