MSP 7.3 with HD ?

Post by pyvo »

I've just upgraded UMSP7 with patch 7.3 on my PIV 3.0GHz HT with Windows XP sp2, expecting to find options to capture, edit and create HD video.
However, all the project templates seem to be the same as before (ex 720x576 max for DV, 800x600 for mpeg) and there is no hint of HD, mt2s, HDV, 1920x1080 etc in project settings, create video or anywhere else.

Do I need any other updates other than UMSP7 SP3 such as a HD-plugin ?
If so, where can I find this (I did search the sites, honest ;o)

Furthermore, has anyone managed to capture HDV from a Sony HC7 or HC9 using MSP7.3 ? I can do this using Sony PMB on a Sony laptop with Vista but not on the PIV described above (I'd like to keep UMSP 7 running on this PC for out-of-the-ordinary edits which cannot be done so easily on competitor's editing tools - we will miss UMSP !

Thanks for any help.

You just updated not upgraded, if you only applied a patch for MSP 7. To upgrade your version of MSP, you would have purchased MSP 8, the very last version, that was released. As you may be aware MSP is an end of life product, Corel discontinued it. You may still be able to purchase it, unless Corel no longer offers it for sale in France.

I no longer have version 7 installed, however MSP8 is the same when it comes to HDV. There should be templates provided for HDV, however they are found under the MPEG settings, not avi.

Thanks for the reply above.

However, as documented on the site
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 7911963266
under MSP 7.0 (when opening the MSP7(E).pdf file),
What's New

Support Windows Media Audio and Video 9 Series Encode your HDV footage or high quality stills to a variety of HD resolutions, such as 1280 x 720 progressive (720p), 1920 x 1080 interlaced (1080i), or 1920 x 1080 progressive at 23.976 fps (1080Psf).

24P Support 24P Standard (2:3 pulldown) and 24P Advanced (2:3:3:2 Pulldown)
However, even though the menu option Help / About MSP shows that patch 7.3 is installed, I do not see any ref. to 'a variety of HD resolutions'.

So coming back to the original question, is there something more than just updating to patch 7.3 required - such as a HD-plugin ?
And if so, where can I find this ?
If not, what have I missed in the options available in MSP7.3 ?

Thanks.

Yes HDV is possible with MSP 7 and 8. You should not need a plug-in. Here's a screenshot from MSP8, showing the HD templates to select from. This is when MSP is first launched..

You can also change the Project Properties to that of HDV...

When selecting help / About video editor, I can see Ulead Media Studio Pro 7.30.0003.
When opening a new project, I have Edit file format drop-down which contains 2 options - Microsoft AVI files and MPEG files but neither have associated HD options such as the one in the image you posted above - max resolution is DVD-PAL (720 X 576) on my options.

{I'd like to insert an image of the window here but don't know how to ;o}

Thanks for any clues as to how I can obtain access to HD in UMSP7.3 as described in the updates and patches website (listed in previous entry above).

Pyvo,

MSP7 was never packaged with HD support like MSP8 or the newer versions of Video Studio. Years ago, one could have purchased the HD-Plugin for MSP7. Due to the abundance of HD cameras on the market, the HD-Plugin's support would be very limited since it was written in 2004 and probably not worth finding that's even if you could.

As for WMV-HD support added in MSP7.3, here's a Ulead learning center tutorial.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Corel.com has the old updates available for MSP 7. Go to "http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... 7911963266" download the small zip file. It is a zipped up pdf file that contains links that are still active to the old MSP 7 updates, SP1, SP2, etc. It also has the user manuals available as links.
I do not see the HD plug in specifically but the SP3 description talks about HD resolutions.
MSP 7/8 | VS 8/11.5 | DVD MF 2/3.5/4/7 Pro | VGL 1 | PI-X3 | Painter Essentials 3 | Audacity | Pinnacle Studio DV/7/8/10 | Adobe CS2, PS, PE, AE | PhotoDex Producer 9.0 | ACDSee 9 | Nikon S8100 |

Unfortunately, this is only when creating a WMV-HD file. In the tutorial I provided, they take HD-resolution images and convert them into a WMV-HD file. MSP7 cannot accept any HD material unless one has purchased the HD-Plugin.

Here's an old article:
