I have been using a plextor capture box with go cap software to capture video. I have been doing this for a couple of years but it is not a perfect process. Today I decided to try another setting in the gocap. I tried capture in AVI format instead of mpg. It captures better but when I put the clips into the Ulead vs 10 or x2 there is a problem. The ones captured in avi at 4:3 720 480. The properties say that but they show up as squashed. There is a black bar at the top and bottom but the sides look normal. Not like it was trying to make it 16:9. I tried one box that said something about put clips in at full resolution or fit to project and that did not help. I will put photos in so you can see. the first ones are squashed and the next two are from the mpeg capture.

It sounds like your project properties are set for 16:9. Go to File>Project Properties and click on the Edit button, then General Tab to change your Display Aspect Ratio to 4:3.

The problem seems to be in the capture process as the black bars appear to be part of the frame.
When you capture to Avi you should be able to change the compressor, I notice you selected mpeg-4, whereas your other capture used Mpeg 2.

Can you change the Avi capture to use :-
DV video encoder 1
Or
Microsoft Video 1
Its not as compressed as the other formats and will use 13Gb per hour (DV-Avi)
