Is it possible to batch convert AVCHD files to HDV (mpeg2) with either VS11.5 or VS12.

I can load the AVCHD files into either program using the batch convert tool, but the best output resolution available is 720x576.

Not actually worked with HD video,
but if you first edit the project properties to match the video, then batch convert.
The Batch Convert should use the project properties by default.

Otherwise using the ¡¥options¡¦ you should be able to set the compression to Mpeg 2 allowing you frame sizes above 720 x 576 (you need to select Mpeg 2 not Pal-DVD)

Certainly it can be done in X2.
Once you have inserted your AVCHD clip(s) into the batch convert tool, save as type MPEG. Then go into options and under the compression tab change to MPEG2 and set the video date rate to whatever you want.
Then in the General Tab set frame type to upper field first and in the Standard drop down box choose 1440x1080 and click OK.
At the bottom of the batch convert tool should be the settings you have chosen and if satisfactory click convert.

There is also a relatively modest priced piece of software by Newbluefx/Vasst called AVCHD upshift that will also convert AVCHD to HDV and offers the opportunity to change Keyframe and GOP settings.
The converted file can then be edited in VS.

I have successfully batch converted a few AVCHD files. Thanks for the replies.

Is there any advantages to using a third party program, such as AVCHD upshift, or does VS do just as good a job of the conversion.

AVCHD Uplift is made for the purpose and does have functions to change GOP and keyframe settings, which VS does not offer during batch convert. However to be honest I'm not that knowledgeable and do not understand what they are for, so do not know if they are worth paying for and what setting would be best.
Hopefully somebody else on the forum can enlighten us both as to the usefulness of being able to set GOP and Keyframe settings during conversion.
