Cannot download Plug-ins

Post by TobyP »

I have 2 computers .One I use for general use which is connected to the web (1)..the other is used solely for video editing and is not connected to the web (2).
I upgraded my Cool 3D version 3.0 to 3.5 on (1) a few years back and downloaded a few plug-in effects eg. Explosion etc and these work well but recently I started using Cool 3D again on (2)...Had transferred it about same time as upgrade..and tried to transfer the plugin effects..which I had transferred to desktop on (2) as uez files.
However when I try to download to easy palette I get message "unknown preset folder"
What am I doing wrong? How can I effect these transfers?
Please advise.
Thank You

Did you install Cool 3D on computer 2 or just copy files over? I ask this because you should install it not just try to copy files from one PC to another. I'm understanding transfer to mean just copying files from one to the other..

Cannot download Cool 3D Plug ins

Post by TobyP »

Hi Vidoman

Thanks for your reply.
Perhaps you have hit on the reason for my problem.
Far from being a computer whiz my method for installing the Cool 3D program on Cmputer 2 was to Copy files from Computer 1 to Computer 2 and hit the exe.file to install....After your reply I looked in the Add/Remove folder on the control panel on computer 2 and could not see the Cool 3D program there.
If faulty technique was my problem in transferring the program please enlighten me as to the correct procedure in effecting this transfer

Thank You

Further to my last entry I add that the Cool 3D program is in the Program Files on computer 2 and works well... apart from the fact that these extra plug-ins will not allow themselves to be added

Whilst some programs will work by simply copy/paste the directory in the "Program Files" folder many will not.

There are three main reasons (There are also other reasons but these three will serve to illustrate the problem.)

1. When you install a program it creates a directory under "Program Files" but often also creates stuff under "Program files/common files" - often these are shared items such as dll (Dynamic Link Library) files.
2. Very often entries are also created in the Windows\system and the Windows\System32 directories.
3. Often entries are created in the Windows Registry.

Further files are also often created in the Users directories
XP = C:\Documents and Settings
Vista = c:\users

In short ----- you need to install them not copy/paste.

So
Is it possible to install this program without the CD?

If so - how?

Thanks

Yes if you have the installation files. Did you purchase the boxed or ESD (download) version?

There should be a total of 7 install files.
