X2 Will Not Capture
Hello Im trying to capture video with my sony camcorder using my firewire. I'm doing the same capture procedure as I have for years with my other software. I recently bought the X2 and cannot capture with it. All other features work correctly with the x2. My other brand of video editing software captures fine with the same setup. When I capture with X2 the source shows my sony camcorder & I've tried all formats. When I click on capture the counter runs for a short time then a error message saying, Captured Failed The File created is corrupted & unstable it will be automatically deleted. I don't know if there's any other setting I'm needing to set. Thanks for any help...

Is your Sony actually a mini DV camera, or is it a Digital 8 in which you are playing an analogue tape for capture via Firewire? If the latter, then there has been a bug since VS 11 which no longer allows such capture. We brought it to the attention of Corel at that time, but they never corrected it and it also got transferred to X2. However, I can certainly use X2 to capture DV/AVI format via firewire from my mini DV camera (and also my high definition Canon HV20).
Mind you, I seldom use Video Studio to capture DV. I prefer to use a small freeware program called WinDV which does a great job with no lost frames. So if you have another program which captures fine, then you simply open the capture files in X2 for editing.

Thanks Ken for your reply. My camcorder is Hi8 tape, but Im not using any tape to capture with. Im just using the camcorder to capture my video saving my videos on my hard drive. So since Im capturing to my hard drive via sony camcorder, is that issue within the newer version as you mentioned. Ive used pinnacle 10 for several years but I wanted more video tracks that why the X2 won me over. Thank you again for all your help....Eddie

I am sorry to say that the capture problem in VS11/X2 relates to capture via firewire and a Video 8 or mini DV camera but using an analogue source, which is what you are doing. So I am afraid you have no choice but to capture using another program then open the captured file for editing in X2...

Ok thanks for the info. I'll look for a freeware program as you mentioned. Oh by the way my computer tech here in Somerset Ky is from Australia. Small world. Thank you again....

eddie: please also log the problem with Corel! They will never fix it if they don't keep getting the issue raised...

Good luck with that. It's not that it was not already repeatedly raised with them by us -- and we are, after all, System Admin since it was not only me, but Ron (Vidoman) who also share the same problem.
But yes, please add your voice to the weight of public opinion!!! However, I suspect from their point of view, there is an increasingly small number of user who want to do what we want to do..
