Narnia Prince of Caspian BD won't play

Post by crashN8 »

I have contacted support on this multiple times and get the same please update your software response each time. I completely un-installed and then installed the software plus two updates as instructed.

This software is a joke.... please provide an update so I can have confidence to purchase new BluRay discs. I depend on your software to play movies on my PC based home theater setup.

Alternatively, give me my money back and I'll fill another HDMI input to my TV with a cable from a stand alone player.

Get with the program!!!!

Don't sweat it .... it won't help

This board is isn't maintained and viewed by Corel (or by me) so don't sweat it.

Here is your best course of action if you want to play disks that have come out recently. Note that WinDVD9 should play every disk released more than 6 months ago flawlessly if your system is OK

1) Get your money back (if you paid) if possible, and pay for ArcSoftTMT (they have no trial version) - ArcSoft TMT seems to have the best disk compataibility ... Corel the poorest.

2) Check your computer. You must have the latest drivers for your motherboard, video card and Direct X. You must also have the lastest firmware for your Blu-Ray drive.

3) Antivirus and Firewall must be turned off during the WinDVD install. If you have Comodo Firewall 3 installed it must be completely removed with a reboot before installing WinDVD. Install WinDVD and patches and run for the first time and for testing without these too.

4) Run MEMTEST86v test 6 about 40 times to ensure that your computer doesn't have subtle RAM memory problems.

For new release movies less than 6 months old.... your Blu-ray disk still may not play even if your system is perfect. If older disks play and new disks won't, there is nothing you can do to fix the problem ... you have to wait until Corel releases a patch (which will be months). You may want to report the issue to Corel by phone or email.

Thank you for your prompt response...

My drivers, firmware, etc. are all up to date.

5GB Ram, all PC specs are per the Corel recomended list...

I have to assume this is due to the release date of this disc. I have no issues playing other BluRay discs.

I am in the process of asking for my money back. I think I will get a stand alone player and forget the whole PC thing.

You may want to run MEMTEST 4.3

Post by Sirandar »

Getting you money back is probably the best course in your case.

I notice you have 5Gigs of RAM, which is a little odd...... 2+2 and 0.5 + 0.5. Or maybe you have a 1Gig module but then you would be losing dual channel and a lot of your system performance.

You may want to test your system with MEMTEST 4.3 for at least overnight, otherwise you may have end up having other issues. MEMTEST is free and safe to use.

I assume you are running vista, but even so you may want to lose the 0.5 +0.5 memory modules .... most motherboards don't like it and none will run well as 2G and 0.5G modules are too different.

Forgive me if you are a experienced system builder and already have a stable system.
