VideoStudio Pro X2 - Multiple installs over network issue

Hi Everyone,

I work on a site that requires VideoStudio Pro X2 to be installed on multiple machines, I've managed to run the installer over the network and this has worked fine, the problem is that we have a site licence (up to 120 installs) and yet the software will only allow one of the machines to run the software at any given time.

The software runs perfectly if it is the only machine on the network running it, but if there is already a machine running the software on the network it just closes the VideoStudio Editor before it finishes loading it.

If I disconnect a machine from the network the program loads up fine, so I would imagine there is a few lines of code in there somewhere that is preventing it from loading if it finds another machine on the network running the same software. I've also tried a few machines with the latest VideoStudio Patch but this did not resolve the issue.

I could not find any instructions for network installs for this software, so if anyone else has had a similar issue or knows what the problem is, then your help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums,

By what you describe, it appears that VS does have a problem with installing over a network. I've never tried installing it on my simple home network. It seems that VS is being run from a Server, since VS will only allow 1 instance at a time. Even having multiple versions installed on a single PC, VS will only allow 1 version to run at a time.

The only workaround to this would be to manually install in each PC separately, and not via a network. If there is a code, I think Corel would be about the only one to know what that may be, and would hope that they would provide support and instructions, since a site license is rather expensive. If not, hopefully someone that has installed it over a network will hop in with their solution..

Not tried a network install but have installed it separately on about a dozen of my home network computers without any problems.
How are you performing the network install?

I copied everything on the DVD install disk to a folder on our server which is shared over the network. All the machines installed the software over the network (at the same time) with no issues and each machine can run the software but only if it is the only machine on the network running the software. I can however unplug a machine from the network and the software will run as it can't see if any other machines are running it.

I might give our supplier a call as well, but any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Yes but how are you doing that installation?
Are you runing a "BAT" file from each individual machine, are you using "Remote Desktop" or some specific "Network Install" software, possibly even a "Virtual Server."

Suggestion:

Install seperately on the machines and save whatever files to the server so all can access.

I know this can be tedious but may be one work around.

What type of server you using for the network?

I only have one copy of the software, on DVD, but we have a site licence that should allow us to install and run it on 120 machines. Being that I had one disc and multiple machines I copied everything on the disc to a folder on our server which is simply shared over the network.

I run the installer by navigating to this folder and running it on each machine manually. I didn't use any batch files or Remote Desktop, etc. if that helps.

Try this on ONE of your machines and if it works you can then try a few others.

1. Remove VideoStudio.
2. Re-install from the CD - NOT from the network.

I agree Steve, that trying a single machine install should work. I think that VS is just not designed for network installs. It must be placing some of the Common Files on the server, and when one of the network PCs launches VS, it goes to those Common Files. So if those files are loaded in RAM, VS on other network PCs think that it's already running.

I don't fully understand networks, and running software on them, but I think that the software must be specially written to run on a server, or to allow installing over a network. VS just doesn't allow enough control during the install in making sure all the required files are placed on the workstations and not placed on the server being used.
