how to mask parts of an image

Post by Jack »

Using Corel PhotoImpact 13.00
I need to publicly present a medical photo and want to mask out ("blackout") face and/or parts of body. How is this done?
I seem to remember being able to place a rectangle of black to do this, but can't seem to make it happen.
Could I get some detailed instructions? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums,

This can be done by just creating a path object, placing it over the portions of the image you want to black-out. Path objects are solid and filled, where outline paths are not.

You could also use the Selection tool, using whatever shape, rectangle, ellipse, or freehand, and drag out the selection shape over the area. Then go to the Effects menu, Creative>Mosaic Blur. This will apply the effect to just the selection area, it also creates an object from it. However once you have it blurred, just go to the Layer Manger, right-click and select Merge-All. The Mosaic Blur is the effect that you see used on TV, to blur or scramble faces..
