Hi
I have VS8 and trying to edit a DVD recorded with AC3 sound. I have ac3filter but do not know as how to install and use it with VS8. Is there a way I could encode AC3 and complete my editing and burning a DVD.
I downloaded the DVD to my VS8 and find there is no audio. I need to edit this DVD and burn the revised DVD. Windows XP -SP2, 250GB, 3.00GB MHz speed, 1GB RAM.........
I need help from this forum.
thank you

Installing AC3 Plugin

The VS AC3 PowerPack plugin is a simple install. Wherever you have the AC3 program (saved to CD, on your hard drive, etc.) just double click on the program icon to launch and follow the simple dialog boxes. The program will unpack the install wizard, search your pc to make sure you have VS8 installed and then it will install the files automatically to their proper location. That's it.
When you capture footage that already has a Dolby sound track there isn't anything to do. If you have an audio track(s) in LPCM, etc and you want to encode to AC3, you acomplish this at the Share/Burn stage by clicking on the "cog wheel" at the bottom of the screen and choosing "Change MPEG Setting" then the "Customize" button. Then click on the "compression" tab and using the audio dropdown menu. Here you should see the choices, LPCM, MPEG2 and Doldy digital. Just choose Dolby. When you select Dolby you can even change the bit rate.
As for why your captured video doean't have any sound you would have to indicate what kind of a DVD was it, commercial movie or what? You ssy "downloaded to VS8". How did you do this?

Installing AC3 Plugin
Thanks for your reply. I will try your instructions when I get home. What I was trying to edit is a DVD of a play done by my friend. A person was hired to videograph the play and make a DVD. This person did not make the DVD in sequence and has a lot of blanks. My friend wanted me to fix this and combine the 2 DVD into one.
I downloaded this DVD from VS8 from the "import" icon located below the timeline. The picture was very clear but there is no sound.
I will follow your advice and get back to you tomorrow

Re: Installing AC3 Plugin
Vasan, make sure that when you installed the AC3 plugin that it actually installed and is being recognized by VS8. It's a simple matter to check. Just open VS8 and go to the "Share" tab. Once the Share program opens click on the little "Cog wheel" at the bottom left and choose "Change the MPEG Setting" then "Customize." Next click on the "Compression tab" and click on the audio pull down menu. You should see "Digital Dolby" as the last choice. If it's not there then the AC3 plugin didn't install properly. Before you do any of this, I suggest you check the properties of the captured file from the DVD. Just right click on the file and see what the audio properties are.Vasan wrote: I downloaded this DVD from VS8 from the "import" icon located below the timeline. I posted this question some weeks ago, but never got a response. Does anyone know where the FREE AC-3 filter (NOT the Ulead AC-3 plug-in) goes or how it operates with VS8?
The question is now moot for me, as I have now installed VS9, but I am still interested to know as I never got the free filter to work. BTW, I knew it could only be used to capture video which already had Dolby sound, but after that the audio had to be converted, in VS 8, to LPCM/MPEG.
An answer might also be useful for people who have not upgraded to VS9 or who have not bought the Ulead AC-3 plug-in.

I can't really experiment with it either, but when this topic was first discussed on the old and now defunct boards, I included changes to one of the INI files that were necessary -- there are flags in there that tell UVS whether it should attempt to decode AC3 or not. Someone tried making the changes as suggested and was successful, so I think it's doable.
