Alludo USER to USER Web Board

I just logged in early this morning, and found that it is running much, much faster. It would seem that adding the additional RAM is correcting the problem. Even my slow Wi-Fi internet, loads VS fast. I'm happy that this is correcting it. Why it took pushing Corel to the extent I had, though is well, very disappointing. Hopefully they will monitor this more closely now..

This morning the board is running very fast, probably faster then I have ever known it to run.

Well done to the Seniors for the pressure they have put on Corel.

I received an email from Corel apologizing for the problems encountered.
Whilst the staff were away for the Chinese New Year their server get messed up affecting not only this Web Board but also all other things on their server. It was unfortunate that this occurred during a holiday period and so the staff were oblivious to the problem.

I agree it is now much faster, and probably the best it has ever been. Let us hope that it stays that way -- but let us also not forget that the problem started well before everyone in Taiwan left work on the week's New Year holiday. So it was clearly not just something which occurred while they were all on leave.

However, I for one am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt... And am more than happy that it still seems to be quite fast...

Thank you gentlemen for doggedly working on a solution to the problem. Also, thank you to Corel for stepping up to the plate. It's just a shame that it had to escalate to strongly worded letters and threats of people leaving for this to get fixed.

And sadly, it still does not address the various other issues relating to the software used for this Board which Steve and Ron have addressed to Corel for quite literally years now...

EDIT: And I hate to advise, but it took 52 seconds to post the above!!! Hopefully the rot isn't setting in again, and so soon!!

So far it seems that it is maintaining a normal speed here Ken. I agree the other issues have not been addressed. In fairness to Carlos, he did state that they would be looking at upgrading the forum from this outdated PHPBB 2.0 to the current PHPBB 3. They will first need to test the migration on another server to see if any MODs that have been added to this version will survive this. If so then they would need to establish a date in which this board would need to be temporarily shutdown, so they could effect the move..

I'd say for now that we do need to grant just a little time for them to test this. However what I've already read up on, there are no problems upgrading to PHPBB 3. Better safe than sorry though...

I have a page then now or then takes anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds to load. But overall the speed has been good. Still keeping fingers crossed.

Speed appears very good this morning.
Before we rush into moving the Board either to a new server or new software, perhaps we need to let things settle for a while or risk losing all our membership completely.

In recent months we have had 2 problems.
1. Change of address from "http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/" to "http://forum.corel.com/EN/index.php"

This had a teething problem where some of the settings were incorrect and it took about a month before the two incorrect entries were identified and rectified. During this period the Web Board - to the end user - was playing up and almost useless.

2. During the Staff Break for the Chinese New Year, the Web Server somehow got messed up - unfortunately this is something that can and does happen to every computer now and again and is often fixed by a simple reboot. Problem was with no Staff in the Offices at Taiwan who could physically hit that "Reset" button - the Web Boad again became unusable for just over a week.

With two major catastrophes so close to each other, I can understand the anger and frustration felt by our members. I am concerned that if we are too eager to rush through a move to either updated software or a new server or both - that we risk inducing yet another catastrophe so son after the two mentioned above, that we alienate those members who have soldiered through these periods of turmoil.

My thoughts are that we should let the dust settle and when we feel the time is right make an announcement at least two weeks in advance of any future changes warning that there may be some teething issues.
I am sure that if members know in advance of any changes being made that they will be more tolerant of any unforseen issues that may arise.
