Welcome to the forums,
Unfortunately updates, service packs will not install to SE versions.
Next if you're wanting to render to DivX or Xvid, you need to install those codecs. Do you have DivX or Xvid already installed? If not go to http://www.divx.com to download the DivX codec, and for the Xvid go to http://www.xvid.org.
VS does not get along well with the Lame mp3 codec. If you're going to use VS, I would suggest avoiding it. However if you must than you can download it here: http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php

so why there is an auto update program? why they gave that option at all...Unfortunately updates, service packs will not install to SE versions.
i have already all the codecs. i can encode video with divx and xvid.Next if you're wanting to render to DivX or Xvid, you need to install those codecs
but cannot the audio. i dont have an option to encode audio.
i have only option to encode the video in virtual studio.
because of that im looking for other plugins to use. maybe the will let me ancode audio.
If you can't get it to work, try using SUPER, a FREE audio/video conversion program that can convert between many different formats. It can convert to AVI/DivX with MP3 audio.
In general, the best procedure is -
1. Capture to a less-compressed format. AVI/DV (13 GB per hour) is the most trouble-free format, if your hardare and software can capture to that format.
2. Do all of your editing in the less-compressed format.
3. Compress to your final desired format.
In some cases this may require 3 different programs!
For capture, you may be limited by your capture hardware. Ror example, my capture card only captures to MPEG-2, and it only works with it's own software. Everybody has different requirments and a different set-up. So, you'll have to figure-out a procedure that works with your hardware, software, and the compression formats you are working with.from where i can get more capture plugins?

thank you both of you. DVDDoug, vidoman.
in the past maybe we needed 3 different programs, but today its possible just need the right capture plugin!
just for example:
in ulead directshow plugin i can use any video codec i want.(but not an audio)
in ulead mpeg plugin i can use any audio codec i want.(but not a video)
there is any plugin that combine the two options?
thank you!
but this is the point with new products and software that they can be more advanced. In some cases this may require 3 different programs!

So it is indeed possible to render to Divx in VS 10 SE?if you're wanting to render to DivX or Xvid, you need to install those codecs
Like dudubitn, I got the software with a capturing device (video grabber). Computer is running on Win XP, SP3.
I have the divx codec (6.8.5) installed. In the ¡§Share¡¨ section my ¡§AVI¡¨ tab offers only three ¡§compression¡¨ entries: DV type 1, DV type 2 and MJPEG.
I shoud be seeing my Divx codec here, right? Or is that feature reserved for the PLUS edition?

If it is not showing then the SE version does not allow this. The full versions do. SE versions are created for bundling with hardware, and do not include everything full versions do. Software companies do this to entice people into buying their products. It gives you a way to edit your video, however to get the full features and functions you need to purchase the full version. I learned a long time ago, that with any free software included with hardware packages, you get what you paid for. It is real frustrating when you want to use certain features that are not included.
VS10 is now an out-of-phase or discontinued version. The most current release is VS X2, Pro or Ultimate.

Thankx Ron.
I more or less expected something like that. You¡¦re right about the free included software.
To be frank, I don¡¦t really need the Divx encoding, all I want is to create DVD¡¦s from my old VCR tapes and Video Studio performs well enough for that.
I¡¦m just a bit annoyed that manufacturers advertise with Divx encoding capability when in fact they know it¡¦s not there.
Have a nice weekend!
