Greetings folks. I've been editing with the .m2ts files from the Sony HDR-SR12. I do own VS11+ and haven't taken the plunge to VSX2. For those who have worked with both do you have a preference for one editor over another when it comes to working with AVCHD files?
Thanks for the help.

First, to give VS11+ half a chance to deal with AVCHD, you should have upgraded it to VS11.5+...
That being said, there is not much difference in editing AVCHD with X2, though the latter is generally a little faster across the board. However, a recent update patch to X2 has improved some aspects of editing AVCHD, though not the most serious bug (a glitch following added transitions). My own experiments with this patch and X2 with AVCHD indicated that certain AVCHD from certain cameras no longer seem to have this glitch. But the problem with AVCHD to date is that the camera manufacturers have all developed their own standards and codecs, and the software manufacturers have not yet caught up...

Yes it is
Yes it is better.
I have the same camera as you and almost the same system PC. I have found it lot better for editing .m2ts files, but I am still using the Smart Proxy, because I found it almost impossible to edit large projects with No Smart Proxy, although some people in this forum have reported they have no problems editing .m2ts files without SP enabled ( I have the latest patch). Maybe the Sony HDR- series of cameras has a different type of .m2ts files than some other cameras recording in HD.
Yes, for me it is well worth the upgrade.

I appreciate the responses guys. I've done an upgrade since last listing my specs. I pumped 8 gigs of ram into my Quad Core and am now running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Since I changed my operating system and added the extra ram I haven't reinstalled 11.5+ (meant to say 11.5+ Ken) and I've downloaded the X2 trial. Ken ... how would I go about getting my serial # for 11.5+ which I had purchased? Do I need to install 11.5+ again before purchasing the upgrade for X2 or is there a way for me to just be able to install X2 without having to reinstall 11.5+ with the patches?
Thanks for the help man. Once I install X2 and dl the latest patch for it I'll go ahead and render a short project with my SR12 files and see if I get that glitch you're talkin about.
Thanks again.

I was pondering your response regarding the type of m2ts files generated by the Sony cams. Sony does have an independant algorithym when you activate the x.v. color while recording as it apparently records more colors which are viewable/detectable by Sony HDTV's that display this x.v codec. I wonder if that is what's making the difference? I wouldn't think so but perhaps worth further investigation.
