Save Trimmed Video (batch, not one at a time)

I posted this a while ago but thought I'd try a different angle since Corel is not the solution.

I have 8 hours of video to edit for a freind. Lots of start/stop video clips. So I'll bring it into the computer, then split it by scene. My guess is there will be 50 or so clips per tape.

My plan is to import all 8 hours, split into scenes, and save (one tape at a time). I'll put them on a USB drive and let my buddy do the trimming on each clip, as well as decide a mix flow (this was from a long vacation in various countries).

The Corel way is to import, split by scene, then manually save each clip. I don't want to sit there and save each clip manually. I know Corel doesn't accomodate this, is there a video editor that does? I'll still use Corel to mix and finalize, this split and save manually is idiotic!!!

When I do a Capture in VS 11.5 or VS 12Pro, I select Capture.
then under "Capture Folder" I tell VS where to put the captured videos
and then under that I select "Split by Scene".
It then captures each scene in its own video so I dont have to.

Do a search in the tutorial section. There lots of great stuff in there.

so you dont have to split it, i understand that ... you have to then manually save each clip (assuming you are going to mix them later)

You're not going to find many NLEs that are not expensive, and does a half-way decent job of split-by-scene. I just don't trust a program to be able to know just where I want my clips split. This is next to impossible when the background is very similar in different shots.

split by scene = camera turns on, camera turns off

my issue isn't the split (since this is a computer), what the heck do i have to waste an hour saving each separate clip?

After re-reading your post, I see your issue is with rendering each clip to a separate, new video file, correct?

If so, this should not take any time at all, IF you make sure you're rendering it to the exact same properties as the original. If you just split the clip, VS will Smart Render an new video file in no time...

What file format are you capturing? I still have numerous separate video clips on my system, from a couple years ago, where I used Split by Scene during capture. Just like mentioned above, VS splits the capture, thus giving you separate video clips, not just the one clip, having virtual clips..

Yes. I have a 20 minute video that I took that has a lot of start/stops in it.

I believe you are correct, it is the rendering time that seems to be slowing things down. Its been a bit since I used the software. I'll post after I have a chance to play with it and see if I can bypass the rendering.

Just did a quick look, there are no options????? Basically it is save trimmed video if I recall????

I'm doing it now. Guess if I capture it and split by scene as it captures, it save the clips as it captures. In the past I'd import it, then split it by scene.

Looks like problem solved.
