I have a DVD whose content has been imported in to VS sucessfully becuase as i wish to change/add a menu and reorganise the chapters. When i export it as a DVD to a local folder will it get re-rendered all over again?

Is smart rendering ONLY for mpeg2 compliant files?? (are not vob files actually mpeg files?

Will there be considerable degradation of quality id reprocessed asoutlined above?

If i convert the file system from existing PAL to NTSC (as the DVD has to be sent to US will i loose quality not withstanding what i asked above??

Hi
If you are not changing/editing the Mpeg.
The Mpeg should not re-render.

Start a new project.
I would match the project settings to the Mpeg.
Share create video file
Add the Mpeg
Create a new menu.

When you hit the Burn button VS says this action will take some time to render.
This should be referring to the menu structure.
Press OK/Yes
The blue progress bar should first indicate Convert Menu
If it indicates Convert Title then the main Mpeg is being rendered, not what you want.

Your quality should be as original

Pal to Ntsc
I have performed this process in the past with no noticeable change in quality.

One glitch I found with VS11.5 is that unless I renamed files imported from a DVD-VR disc, they could not be smart rendered. The default VS11.5 name for the imported mpg file was a long string of characters including the date, and also incorporating the "~" tilde symbol, and it seemed that was the problem. As soon as I renamed the files, deleting the symbol, they were able to be smart rendered.

The default X2 file name seems much shorter, and though it incorporates the same tilde symbol, it seems not to cause any problems.
