Installed PhotoImpact X3 but need UAC permission to continue

Post by MiscelPage »

Nature of the problem
Click on icon, C:\Program Files\Corel\Photoimpact X3\ledit.exe, and Vista asks permission to execute program (Continue?). Photoimpact X3 IS in the installed programs list, Control Panel, Programs and Features ¡V installed 11/22/2008
Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?)
Downloaded and installed from Corel
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?
None
Project Properties
None
Output format
None
Error Codes (if any)
When attempting to invoke Photoimpact X3, Vista ALWAYS stops me with the warning:
----------------
User Account Control

A program needs your permission to continue
If you started this program, continue
PhotoImpact Launcher
Intervideo, Inc.
Continue Cancel
------------------
Now, I do NOT want to cripple UAC (User Account Control) since the problem appears to relate to the way PhotoImpact is invoked. I never got an icon on my desktop to use as a launch tool, but found the program by looking in the Program Files\Corel\PhotoImpact\ folder. Is this incorrect, to have created a shortcut using this technique? What other options are there for invoking PhotoImpact X3 so that I don't get this annoying message?

Welcome to the forums,

I don't get the UAC warning when launching PI X3, and I do have a shortcut icon on my desktop(s), which was put there by PI.

Did you have UAC disabled when you installed PI? You might disabling UAC while installing, then once you have it installed, make sure to enable it again. Do you have more than 1 user account? If so do you get the warning when using a Admin account?

One thing that I've noted is that I do not have the option to "join MS Spynet" enable for Windows Defender. I'm not sure if this may affect how UAC looks at various programs when launching or not.

About the only time I get a warning is when I install or remove programs, items from my system. Aside from that, Vista does not give me that warning when launching programs.

Thanks for the welcome - I'm feeling my way here, and am not sure whether to leave the full quote or simply reply in place, deleting the quote. I suppose you'll tell me. :)

I don't know how to disable UAC, so no, I didn't have it disabled when I installed PI X3. Also, I don't know anything about Windows Defender, let alone "MS Spynet". :?: I do have admin privileges, and I am the only user of this PC (Admin and myself, with admin privileges).

I forgot something earlier:  To explain: when I install something, I move the icon (which gets placed on my desktop during the install process) into a folder on my desktop. Sure enough, I do have this PI X3 icon there, and yes, when I click on it, I get the same UAC warning. So my concern about locating the program in the PhotoImpact folder, and invoking a shortcut to PI X3 in this manner, is not a problem.

I don't understand UAC (never dealt with this in years of using XP Pro), but I also don't understand why UAC would be invoked since I did a normal install and saw no warnings at that time.

PI X3 works just fine. I have used PI for over 12 years, upgrading as new versions became available. I miss the gif animater in Vista, but oh well. That's another issue for some other time. I'm just annoyed by the UAC interface, not sure why it happens nor why UAC is being invoked. I don't want to cripple UAC (since I know nothing about it, but assume it has some good purpose), but I will do so if that is necessary. And so far I haven't found a Google tutorial, which I know might help me here.

Thanks for the fast response - I appreciate your time and support.
