Inserting clip in existing timeline

Post by Ken Berry »

I received the following via email. I reminded the user of Board policy that Moderators should not answer questions sent by email. Such questions should be posted here so that others might also offer advice or benefit from the answers.
Ken,

Found your contact info thru the reply from Corel Support.

I'm a new user of VS and had a question to Corel Support which they couldn't/wouldn't answer.

Is there any way to insert video clip within a project?

I couldn't find the INSERT function in the manual and everytime I tried to insert to a specific point, it would add to the end of the project.

Please advise.

Thank you.

David
You don't say which version of Video Studio you are using. However, with X2 Pro, if the video you want to insert has an icon in the Library window, you can in fact just drag it from the Library and drop it where you want in the timeline.

But if you are talking about simply using the Insert Video command, and navigating to the folder where the clip is stored, that is the normal way that Video Studio behaves i.e. placing the clip at the end of the timeline. We have been suggesting to Ulead, and now Corel, for as long as I have been on the Board (more than 6 years) that they allow direct insertion into a chosen point in the timeline which already has a sequence of clips in it designated by the placement of the jogbar. But it has never happened.

So I am afraid that in this situation there is no alternative but to drag the clip you want to insert from the end of the timeline with your mouse, back to the point you want to insert it, and drop it there. It's klutzy and time consuming, but it works.

And if you have other things, such as titles or other overlays, or audio tracks, whose placement will be affected further down the timeline when you add a clip earlier in the project, then make sure you have Ripple Editing enabled.

With the overlay/Title tracks, you can also insert a clip exactly where you want it first off.
