I been expiermenting with VS X2; since I now see alot of pixelating. If I take any two short video clips (AVCHD) and place in the timelime. Set my file output to, AVCHD file (1440x1080); 15000 - 18000 VBR; The program will render fast; while doing the first clip. Once it reaches the second clip,
I see the rendering percent slow down. After the video file is made; (H264 AVC). The first clip looks great, on the player; no pixels, VBR aronud 11,000 - 12,000. When the second clip comes on, pixeling; and the rate drops to 6,000-8,000 avg. After trying a few things, I made another file, with one clip; but in the middle of the clip, I added a small fast text, in the text timeline. Sure enough, rendering was fast, until it reached the text. The resulting video showed the same. Video was great, until the text, then the VBR dropped to around 6000; for the rest of the clip. I added the latest patch, but to no avail. It seems that anything added to the first video clip; decreases the VBR rate, for the rest of the project. I also tried doing this, direct to the disc. Result... First clip okay High bitrate; second clip? Same problem, bitrate drops. It looks like the MPG maximizer, might be the problem, kicking in, but not out. Tried saving as; Blu-ray files too. With the maximizer, same thing. Without the maximizer, I get a MPG2 file with max bitrate. I hope there is a answer to this.

So the two clips are identical in every way?

Try this...with the first clip, put it in the library then drag down a copy intot the timeline so you have two copies of the first clip that renders fast... try rendering again and see if it goes through both clips very fast... if it does, We can conclude that there may be something wrong with your original second video clip

You mention a patch. There is no patch for VSx2. You probably meant something else but I am not sure. Can you clarify what you meant?

Click on VS studio 11/11+; a small window will show up on the next page; scroll until you see Video X2. It changed my X2 to: example; VS12.0099.0 to like 12.0099.1
I found it not easy to find; like Corel was sort of hiding; there was a update to X2.
As I put further down; I could put a single video in the time line, and insert a title; and after the title.. Same thing. I swapped the positions of both videos; same result. Used the same video twice. Once the VBR; and rendering slows down, it never recovers. Same with using direct AVCHD to DVD.

Re the update patch, the link you provide took me to a page saying that the page I was after does not exist. So I did a bit more sleuthing. The Corel update page does not show any update for X2. But after chasing a couple more links I found -- very much to my surprise -- that indeed there *is* an update patch for X2 and moreover it is dated November 2008! Most fascinating to me (particularly as an Administrator who was till just now totally unaware of this update! Thanks Corel!) are the claims that writing HDV projects (I assume back to camera, since this was the only problem) has been fixed and AVCHD performance has been enhanced.

Needless to say, I am currently downloading it!

What is the purpose of registering your product if they can't even send a measly email telling us a patch is available?

I happily stand corrected on the patch issue....
