New on Board- Trouble making .FLV output.

Hi all; I am new to the board.
I have XP2 Pro.
I cannot make a Flash movie, either as a separate file or using the UTube export.
I have a Canon HF-10 camera that only records to AVCHD. I can import and edit using proxy with no problems.
I can make a DVD file and indeed burn DVD's easily, can make an .AVI file, even .WMV, but not flash either from my AVCHD original nor from any of these other files.
Do I need a plug-in and if so how do I find it?
Or is it simply a setting I am not doing correctly.

Although you don't give much detail of what your workflow is or what error messages you might have received, please read http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=171761#171761

Thanx for responding Ken.
My workflow right now is merely to keep testing until I get the flash output sorted out. I deem flash best for the web as it is cross platform and has a very high % of market share, at least that's what we are told.
I have shot 144 seconds of AVCHD (H264 with upper field first) 24 bits 1920x1080 in 16:9 VBR max 16,000 kbps. 60i (not any type of P yet).
With my Canon HF-10. Audio is 48000 Hz.
Simply imported to my desktop the file is 275MB. Both Audio & Video.
I import it into Videostudio ProX2 that I downloaded and installed about 2 months ago.
No glitches although the file size is a bit bigger at 282 MB.
I use Proxy and it edits fine so far, simple adding of titles and credits and a couple of transitions, a bit of music and V/O nothing fancy yet.
I have been able to use section 3 "create files" to make a DV file in two or three sizes and easily burn DVD's with a menu using Corel . Also I have made smaller .WMV files and put up on my web site with no trouble.
But I want to use Flash.
Ideally from imported original AVCHD video after editing.
I also made a .avi file and tried to make a Flash from it, no go.
I just tried re-installing the Flash Player in Corel's utility section, but it did not help, still no Flash created.
I am saving to a project file, then re-opening the project before trying to make a flash file.
I also tried to make one directly from the timeline, no go.
The error message I get is that the little rendering progress bar comes up after I save and then press make a FLV, but stops at between 0 and 3% and when I push escape it tells me Videostudio has stopped responding, and I then have to shut it down.
Exactly the same when I try the U'Tube export.
It does create the FLV little link in the file I am using to save everything to for each project, but it's only a blank shortcut.
I am grateful mfor your help Ken, sorry I did not give enough detail before.

Thanks for all that extra detail. Have you tried the fix suggested in the above link?

Hmmmmmm

I have just run a few tests using X2 to create flash video.

The tests were done using 6 of the default videos placed on the timeline.

After creating a flash video file X2 Stops working and closes down!

The flash (flv) file still gets created but will not play back via X2.

3rd party players such as VLC media player will play the created full flash flash video.

I have replaced the OCX flash file as above which I believe may be the V9 player (flash.ocx) ? V10 Player (flash10a.ocx) is currently installed with Vista.

After replacing the OCX (flash.ocx) file and restarting X2 I now get the ERROR message to install RealPlayer or alternate to play the FLASH videos!!

I installed the FREE Basic Realplayer and can now play the Flash videos direct from X2 after restarting when it crashes at the end of creating flash files!!

It seems to be random bug as X2 will sometimes create the flash video without crashing?

Yes Ken I did try the fix you suggested. It was to re-install the Flash Player in Corel's Utility. Made no difference.
I already have real player so I also tried making it my default player for everything. Made no difference.
That X2Pro goes as far as making the shortcut link and putting it in my project file at about 29kB size, before stopping rendering at about 3% indicates to me it may not be able to find the Codec. Which is why it stops. Presumably it does not need the codec just for making the link.

I have made a new 30 seconds video from the HF-10, as I'm just trying to get the system working I suppose 30 secs is as good as 30 mins, and wastes a lot less time.

I can get pretty much all the other transcoding to work.

Is it a big deal to uninstall and re-install all of Videostudio? Or the wrong way to go. I did it a lot with earlier versions of Premiere.

Hmmm indeed! After reading your post, Accolades, I thought I would give it a try too as I don't use Flash format much. I did it three times but with only 4 of the stock videos -- using a different 4 each time. Set it to produce .flv at 640 x 480. X2 worked perfectly each time i.e. no crash.

But like you, the resulting files would not play in X2. When I tried to drag the newly created files into the X2 timeline, I got an error message saying the file was unreadable!

When trying to play it from the library pane, I also got the 'install Real Player or some other media player' message. I won't allow Real products on my computers, so instead linked to Nero Showtime. And that worked perfectly. Now when I click on the new flv files in the X2 library window, Showtime opens and plays them.

It's curious, though, that the stock animated flash files that come with X2 play directly in the X2 preview screen, but not the ones that X2 itself produces! :?:

The reason is the formats. Those included with VS, are SWF format, and those that VS produce are FLV, considerably different. FLV is flash video, a compression for actual video files, DV, mpg, and so on, just a codec. SWF files are animations, not actual video, and not a video codec. If I understand SWF correctly it animates still images, where FLV just compresses video, so that the more recent flashplayers can play them. I guess it would be like expecting a set-top DVD player to play a MOV file...;)

VS does not have any means to playback FLV, flash video files, but uses their installed Flashplayer to playback the animated SWFs.

Thanx for joining in.
From what you have just said XP2 Pro obviously can make Flash without problems on your computers. From the default videos which seem all to be .WMV.
So I tried that with just one . A few times with different ones. No difference.
Is my idea that it cannot find the codec reasonable?
Does anybody know where the codecs are stored in XP2 Pro?
If I can get hold of the correct codec and cut and paste it to the same place as the others are it may be an answer.

I see you're running Vista. This is strange but I can not render FLV files on my Vista machine, but have no problem on my XP machine. I haven't been able to figure out why. I've taken it to reformat, reinstall my OS, and still VS Pro will not render to FLV. I know others are probably going to say they can, however for some reason I'm one of the few that have not been able to..

I'll keep on trying as I really want Flash.
However I may have to go to a third party program?
Thanx for your help.

Ron (and Tom): I have only just now discovered to my very great surprise that there is an official patch for X2 Pro dated November 2008 on the Corel website. See my post at http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=175181#175181 It upgrades X2 Pro to version 12.0.96.1

I raise it here since you will see that the blurb refers specifically to FLV files -- though very curiously IMHO in relation to a K-Lite codec pack problem which I don't recall seeing before. Anyway, though you might want to take a look at it to see if it fixes your own FLV problem.

I have just installed it but have yet to experiment to see what improvements it might have made. Unfortunately, there is no reference to our long-standing complaint about capture from analogue sources via Firewire. But it claims to have fixed other problems...

And I am gobsmacked that Corel did not even inform us so-called Administrators of the existence of this patch...

I installed the patch.
And it worked.
I can now encode Flash from an original AVCHD placed on the timeline and saved as a project file.

I vote for Ken Berry as a "Star" for finding the patch.
Thanks very much Ken.

  In fact, I only 'found' the patch after another user said there was one. He gave a link which did not work, so I did a bit of sleuthing. It wasn't on either of the 'normal' pages on Corel.com or Ulead.com for Video Studio patches, but was hidden away in another list. However, at least now it is 'found'!!

I am also glad to heard it seems to have fixed your FLV problem!
