I used to capture DV files from my old Canon DV camera and when captured in AVI format they were about 13GB an hour of video. A new Sony HC5 camera I have downloads to MF as HDV format, and MF recognises it as such, but the only capture format option available is MPEG. Using this option I end up with a high definition file of about 11GB size for an hour of HDV video. The media clip properties are MPEG-2, 24bits, 1440x1080,16x9, data rate 25000kbps. I do not want an MPEG conversion, I want the raw video off the tape, which should be a whole lot more than 11GB an hour. How can I get the raw video off the tape? MF does not appear to give me the option without MPEG compression.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Regarding Sony .m2t files
Also, using Sony's own import software I end up with many .m2t files. I searched the forum and found that some people were able to import them. I have tried but failed, even after changing the file names to .avi .mpg. Can someone suggest a way around this too.

I figured it out guys, no input necessary
According to Sony, the HDV output is MPEG-2 compressed, so there is no such thing as raw video. The only way to get a good picture it seems is to connect the camera directly to my HDV TV via component or HDMI and let it play. As for Sony's Picture Motion Browser software and its m2t format - I give up! Sorry for bothering you over the Xmas break.
