Trimmed clips have no video?

Post by Daryl RL »

My son is using this product for a school project and it is not working. When he tries to create a video file from a project (no matter which format he chooses) any video clip that has been trimmed AND does not include the beginning of the original video clip does not diplay in the resulting video file.

He can preview the project fine with VideoStudio but it will not save properly. When he watches the preview as it is saving the trimmed clips are blank (sound but no video). When the file is done saving and it is watched in any other player, the trimmed clips are blank.

HELP please!

Welcome to the forums,

We need a little more information to be able to determine why this is occurring.
  • Version of VS (VS Pro, VS11.5+, VS10+...)
  • How is he trimming the clips? Using the Multi-Trim, manually trimming?
  • Properties of Source video clips. (Right-click on one of the clips in the timeline or library, select Properties)
  • When viewing in VS, is he viewing in Project or Clip Mode? Previewing in Clip mode is playing the Source clips. Project mode may reveal this "blank" problem. You should be aware that the clips in a project are virtual, and not the actual clips.
  • Has he thoroughly checked his project for any color clips that might be on overlay tracks covering up clips below?
  • Check the attributes for any changes in the transparency settings, especially when effects/filters are applied. Again previewing in Clip mode may not reveal this.
DirectX updates seem to correct issues brought on by other updates, even Microsoft's own Windows updates. DirectX updates are being done quarterly, and are not part of the automated Windows updates. Go HERE and download the latest MS Direct-X drivers. The most current is dated November 2008.
