Picture motion ideas needed.

Post by scottb721 »

I've been doing video slideshows for a while now and feel I need learn a new trick or two.
I already do lots of ken burns pan and zoom and also layer different parts of a photo and have them move separately from the each other to enhance depth.

Are there other tricks I can do to get more from pics without resorting to the stuff I've already listed ????

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

There's not a whole lot of different ways to display photos, without getting exotic...

Since you have MSP8 you may have VGL (Video Graphics Lab) or still have Video Paint from MSP7. Try doing an outline of some of the subject/objects in a photo then fade in the real one. That gives a neat effect..

Try using Multiple copies popping in around the edge of the frame, and then one in the center zooming in to full screen or just filling up the center space.

MSP8 has a nice way to cue-mark music beats, then add photos to those cue marks. Using something along this line would be like making your photos move or dance to the beat of a song...

Now remember if you're doing these for clients, I get 10%....;)

In MSP8, you can simulate an A-B roll transition with all sorts of weird effects, using overlays.

Pace photo A on track 1 and photo B on track 3 with an overlap and an overlay 0-100% transparency on A and 100-0% transparency on B, setting the keyframes to suit the artistic effect you want. On track 2, you can place a black/white or colour mask with the desired effect and make either the black, white or colour transparent, combined with moving paths and other effects and colour changes. The possibilities are andless. For example, you can also have a plurality of different masks fading into each other or you can animate them. You can even have photos or video clips in the transition layer. One I've seen was a blinking eye on a transparent background.

This technique is so versatile that there is an enormous risk: it can easily become quite gimmicky and thus disagreeable if overdone.
