Ulead Installer Kicks In!

Post by vpnavy »

I updated my WindowsXP and the first time I jumped over to Microsoft Word - Ulead kicks in and requires me to put in my Original disk to continue. I just installed another software package and Ulead kicks in again! It is as though Ulead is now handling the installations. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This surfaced shortly after PIX3 was released. There's a 4 page thread in the forum concerning this. However I think the solution was to run MicroSoft's Window Installer Cleanup Utility...

Thank you. I did search but I guess I didn't use the correct key words.

Thanks again.

Super! I tried the patch and it kept erroring off. You would think good ole Corel would provide a patch since it is THEIR package that is apparently causing the problem.

I jumped over to the link and found (below).

Before I have to go through all that stuff - I will just uninstall X3 and never buy another Corel product as long as I live.

Thanks again for your help.

-manually remove Photo Impact X3 from the system to avoid corrupted files

Launch Windows Explorer and go to "Tools > Folder Options > View" to check "show hidden files and folders"; Please purge/delete all the files in these folders: "C:\Windows\Temp" "C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp" (for WinXP); Go to "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems"; Delete the folder for "PhotoImpact 13"; Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact"; Delete the "13.0" folder; Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact"; Delete the "13.0" folder; Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information"; Delete the folder "{C8550C86-A712-4219-AD4C-038C9FD1D149}" (skip if you can't find); Go to Start-->Run; Type "regedit"; Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact"; Delete the folder "13.0"; Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact"; Delete the folder "13.0"; Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall; Locate the identity enclosed in curly brackets that corresponds to Ulead PhotoImpact 13 {C8550C86-A712-4219-AD4C-038C9FD1D149} (skip if you can't find); Delete the said entry; Close "Regedit"; Restart Windows; Before you reinstall PhotoImpact, please disable any antivirus or real time scanning software (Firewall, spam detectors or anti spy wares especially Norton. Sometimes they mistake PhotoImpact program files for something harmful and blocks some important files, which is of course not true.); Reinstall PhotoImpact. Be sure to logon as Administrator before installing your software to avoid restrictions.
Note: Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.

-after applying service pack 3, reinstall the program

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further questions.

No, no, no... that's not the fix to the problem. That's the instructions for doing what we call a complete, clean, or full uninstall. The fix to the constant pop-up of installing seemed to be running that Windows Installer Clean-up utility. Real simple, nothing like that...;)

Unfortuntately, the Windows Installer Clean-up utility keeps erroring off with something about Temp files. Not a problem - I already uninstalled but will keep the CD in case I am stuck with living with Corel's crappy install process.

Thanks for your help.

UPDATE: Here is Corel's Problem Solution:

Try doing a 'clean re-install' of PhotoImpac X3 to make sure that there are no corrupt files within the program which could be causing the problem. Click on the link below for procedures in doing a 'clean re-install' of PhotoImpact X3:

http://support.corel.com/scripts/rightn ... 1213801542

It is also recommended that you re-download the installer of the program to make sure it is no corrupted as well. Make sure to turn-off your anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall during the download to prevent conflicts which could lead to a corrupted download file.

What a 2nd rate company! Yes I upset. The software isn't cheap. They apparently know they messed up but it becomes their clients responsibility to correct the problem - great company.
