Zoom H2 Recorder as USB mic for VS audio recording

In a recent post concerning the best audio format for use in VS, I mentioned trying to use a Zoom H2 digital recorder as a USB mic for direct input to VS projects/audio recording.

As an update I can report that it works well, for voice at least. When plugged into a USB port it is powered through the port. A menu setting on the mic needs to be changed and then my computer recognizes it as a device. I boost the mic to its highest recording volume (127 when the default is 100). I set the Auto Gain Control to the "voice" setting (AGC2), turn the volume of my computer speakers down to avoid feedback and proceed as usual. I think the results are better than any of the mics I have used so far.

I have also been successful in testing its use as an external mic for my Canon HV30 using its line-out going into the camera mic input. It works but I need to wait for a fitting to attach it firmly to the camera before I can do any real field testing. Will post more when I get it.

Thank you for the update..:)

Zoom products are very good quality. I've not used the mic you purchased, but did have one of their guitar effects. Loved it!!
