I just purchased Movie Factory 6 Plus and find that it will not work with my Canon HG10 camcorder. Money wasted.
Thanks

Welcome to the forums,
Did you purchase it from Corel? If so and it does not work for you than take advantage of their 30 day money back guarantee

http://apps.corel.com/lp/wpox3/2413/pop.html
However this is a Help forum, so we might be able to assist you with getting it to work somehow. You do need to give us a little more to work with though.
How does it not work with your HG10? I know their are issues with that camcorder working with some of Corel's products, mainly being able to capture from it. That problem is attributed more to Canon, not Corel. If Canon wanted all the NLEs and DVD authoring programs to work with it's product, they would be more open with the code. Canon is not the lone wolf on this, other camcorder makes are the same way...
DVDMF is primarily a DVD authoring program, with very little ability to edit video. If you're wanting to do some in-depth editing you may need to look into editing programs, like VideoStudio, or even some competitor's program. Once you've completed any editing and have your final DVD compatible MPEG-2 file(s), then you could use DVDMF to author and burn your DVDs. Just a thought, as several of us use numerous programs throughout the process..

Corel KnowledgeBase ref Canon HG10 wrote: The Corel Guidemenu is easiest way that you can download videos from the Canon HG10. It should launch automatically as soon as you plug the Canon HG10 into the computer and switch to display. (**Please note that the camera must be plugged into power before you can connect it to the computer**).
Note: if the Guidemenu does not start immediately, you can access it from your start menu under Start > All Programs > Corel Applications.
Once the menu comes up follow the next set of steps:
*
Click on "Save Files to PC"
*
The File Location window will allow you to select where you would like the files saved on your PC; the default location is "My Videos" located in "My Documents" on XP, or "Videos" under your User folder in Vista. You can change the location by clicking on the icon located next to the target folder. When finished, click next to continue.
*
The Clip Selection screen is where you will select the video clips that you would like to save to your hard drive. At the bottom left of the menu you will see an icon with a green box with a checkmark in it - if you click the icon that will select all of the videos on the HG10 camcorder. If you would like to uncheck all of the video clips just click the icon next to the 'check all' icon just mentioned. You can also go through the list and check off individual video clips that you would like to save to your hard drive.
*
Once you have the videos you would like to transfer you can now click start. A new screen will come up that will show you the progress of the video transfer, once the progress bar reaches 100% click ok and you are done.

Movie Factory 6 Plus: Canon HG10 Incompatibility
The Canon HG 10 works with Corel Movie Factory SE, but does not work with 6 Plus. 6 Plus does not recognize the camera when connected.
The Corel Movie Factory SE which is provided with the camera (Corel Application Disk) actually encourages you to upgrade to Factory 6 Plus, though why I do not know. Factory SE (v 5.6) works, but is very limited in what it offers. There is obviously a patch needed for Factory 6 Plus. In fact you must download a patch for Factory SE for the Canon HG10 when you first install.
I did contact Corel regarding a patch, but Corel does not respond to correspondence. This is my first experience with a Corel product. Not impressed.
Thanks

I'm not familiar with the Canon HG10, however, when you plug in the camera to the USB port it should indicate you have a new storage device. The Operating System will assign a drive letter to it and you can navigate to the drive and download video to your computer and or add the video in Movie factory.

Instead of banging your head against the wall why not capture with the SE version then edit/output with the Plus version?

DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus will work with the HG10 but you need to buy the HD Power pack or else it will not recognize the M2TS files from the HG10.
The reason why DVD MovieFactory SE works with the HG10, is becuase it is an OEM package from Canon and they had Corel make a special version to be shipped with the HG10.
I have the HG10 and ran into the same problem, I am now using VideoStudio X2 Pro and I find it much better then MovieFactory.
This is the link to the HD Power Pack page, it is $19.99
