A few years back I used to be able to get my Instant Playback preview to run fullscreen on a TV connected to the PC.
This was possible by, firstly, setting the TV output on the video card to Clone mode so the TV mimics the monitor display, then in MSP's Preview Window Menu selecting Playback Options and setting 'Playback In' to Dual Head Device.
What this did was make the tv display what the monitor was showing. As soon as you previewed your clip the TV would switch to showing the preview full screen. When the preview finished the TV would revert back to showing what the monitor showed. ie the full MSP app.
For the life of me I can't get this working this time around.
I do get the clone bit working but it's not switching to full screen preview.
Surely with hardware upgrades over the years it's not a feature that has been lost.
Any ideas ?
Thanks very much.

This is not really relevant here as it is essentially a hardware problem. I used to have a 3-screen setup with a Matrox G-550 (2-monitor card) and a Canopus ADVC-100 feeding a TV on the IEEE-1394 output. The second screen showed the Preview full-screen (or nearly so), taking the Overlay signal, while the small Preview remained on the first screen. This worked fine. I could not do the same when a new computer, unable to accept the Matrox card (progress
) forced me to a NVIDIA card. Could I set it up the same? No! There was no way I could. It insisted that the second monitor be an extension of the first. I could drag and resize the Preview window but I would lose the small one. Worse, as often as not, it would refuse to display some things, for example, I couldn't use it in WS2, where I could before. Worse again, the new graphics sometimes hogged the signal away from the IEEE-1394 port, depending what I was trying to do. I forget the details, but the problem is all hardware and nothing to do with MSP, IMHO.

I only thought it relevant to this forum as it's only with MSP that I would use dual screen and was something that worked before. Seems a real shame it's no more.
Something that I have just recalled is that Windows Media Player would also go full screen when something was played.
I wonder what actually makes the overlay run full screen when Instant Playback is initiated.
Cheers.

Scott,
I use MSP with a TV exactly the same way as you describe. Using the Classic Nvidia Control Panel, I set my Nvidia Display Mode to Clone. Next you should see the Full Screen Video option. Under Full screen video controls, you need to set Full screen device as Secondary display and check the checkbox for Track overlay rotation. Now your graphics card is ready to be adjusted in MSP by following the steps below.
Setting up MediaStudio Pro 7 display and performance

Setting Playback Options for Optimal real-time preview

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions.
What video card and driver version are you using ?
I had to use a reg hack to get the old nvidia control panel back and revert to an older driver to get the secondary display setting to stick, but even then output isn't switching to full screen during preview.
I'm also using MSP8 now. My previous experiences when this function did work was with MSP7.

Thx for that. The reason you can still do it is your 7xxx card and older drivers. Current drivers are up to 178.13.
Stick with hat you have if you want to maintain the fullscreen overlay.
LOTS of people are complaining about the removal of that feature as it also affects other video playback apps and prevents them from going full screen on secondary device also.
